Replacement: ball joint – FORD TRANSIT CONNECT (P65_, P70_, P80_). AUTODOC recommends:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right ball joint.
- Please note: all work on the car – FORD TRANSIT CONNECT (P65_, P70_, P80_) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out the replacement steps as follows:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Remove the wheel centre cap.Step 3Loosen the wheel nuts. Use a 21 mm wheel impact socket. Use a tommy bar.
- Step 4Remove the cotter pin that secures the axle fastener. Use a mounting lever. Use long nose pliers.
- Step 5Remove the castle cover from the axle nut.
- Step 6Clean the axle nut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 7Loosen the axle nut. Use a 36 mm socket. Use a tommy bar.
- Step 8Raise the vehicle.Replacement: ball joint – FORD TRANSIT CONNECT (P65_, P70_, P80_). Professionals recommend:If you are using a jack, make sure the car is parked on a hard, flat surface.Make sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 9Unscrew the wheel nuts.Caution!To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the nuts.
- Step 10Remove the wheel.
- Step 11Unscrew the axle nut. Use a 36 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 12Remove the axle washer. Use a telescoping magnetic pick-up tool.
- Step 13Jack up the suspension arm. Use a transmission jack or one more vehicle jack.
- Step 14Detach the CV axle from the steering knuckle. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
- Step 15Remove the support from under the suspension arm.Replacement: ball joint – FORD TRANSIT CONNECT (P65_, P70_, P80_). AUTODOC experts recommend:Lower the transmission or vehicle jack smoothly without jerking it to avoid damaging the vehicle assemblies and mechanisms.
- Step 16Clean the fastener connecting the anti-roll bar link to the suspension strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 17Unscrew the fastener connecting the anti-roll bar link to the suspension strut. Use a 19 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 18Disconnect the anti-roll bar link from the suspension strut.
- Step 19Detach the ABS sensor wiring.
- Step 20Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 21Unscrew the nut connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a 19 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 22Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint separator.
- Step 23Clean the ABS sensor fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 24Unscrew the ABS sensor fastener. Use an 8 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 25Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 26Remove the ABS sensor.
- Step 27Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 28Unscrew the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use an 18 mm socket. Use a tommy bar.
- Step 29Remove the fastening bolts.
- Step 30Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.AUTODOC expert recommendation:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting it from the brake hose to avoid opening the brake line.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging from the brake hose.Do not press the brake pedal after the caliper has been removed. This may cause the piston to fall out of the caliper bore resulting in the brake fluid leakage and air entering the system.
- Step 31Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 32Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension arm. Use a 24 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 33Support the steering knuckle. Use a transmission jack or one more vehicle jack.
- Step 34Detach the suspension arm from the ball joint. Use a ball joint separator. Use a mounting lever.
- Step 35Clean the lower fastener of the suspension strut that connects it to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 36Unscrew the lower fastener of the suspension strut. Use an 18 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 37Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 38Remove the CV axle from the steering knuckle.Replacement: ball joint – FORD TRANSIT CONNECT (P65_, P70_, P80_). Tip:Make sure that the CV axle is not hanging down.
- Step 39Disconnect the steering knuckle from the suspension strut. Use a rubber mallet. Use a transmission jack or one more vehicle jack.
- Step 40Remove the steering knuckle together with the wheel hub.
- Step 41Unscrew the wheel bearing fasteners. Use a T50 Torx bit. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 42Remove the fastening bolts. Use a telescoping magnetic pick-up tool.
- Step 43Remove the wheel hub together with the brake disc.
- Step 44Clean the area where the ball joint is fastened to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 45Remove the circlip. Use circlip pliers.
- Step 46Press the ball joint out of the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint C-frame press kit.
- Step 47Clean the ball joint mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 48Press the new ball joint into the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint C-frame press kit.
- Step 49Install the circlip. Use circlip pliers.
- Step 50Clean the wheel hub mounting seat on the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 51Treat the mounting surface on the wheel bearing. Use ceramic grease.
- Step 52Install the wheel hub together with brake disc.
- Step 53Install the fastening bolts.
- Step 54Screw in the wheel bearing fasteners. Use a T50 Torx bit. Use a ratchet wrench.
