Replacement: engine radiator – BMW 5 (E39). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Follow the terms, recommendations and requirements of the part operation provided by the manufacturer.
- Check the coolant condition and replace it if necessary.
- Please note: all work on the car – BMW 5 (E39) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the hood.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3Unscrew the coolant reservoir cap.
- Step 4Remove the fan shroud clips. Use a clip removal tool.
- Step 5Unscrew the cooling fan fastener. Use a combination spanner #32 (2 pieces).
- Step 6Remove the fan shroud. Remove the cooling fan.
- Step 7Prepare a container for fluids.
- Step 8Open the coolant drain tap.
- Step 9Drain the coolant from the engine.Replacement: engine radiator – BMW 5 (E39). Tip:Caution! The coolant can be very hot.Wear gloves to prevent contact with hot liquid.All work should be done with the engine stopped.Wait until the coolant has completely flowed out of the drain hole.
- Step 10Close the coolant drain tap.Step 11Detach the clamp of the upper coolant hose. Use a crowbar.
- Step 12Detach the upper coolant hose.Replacement: engine radiator – BMW 5 (E39). Tip from AUTODOC experts:Caution! Coolant may leak from radiator openings.
- Step 13Detach the clamp of the lower coolant pipe. Use a crowbar.
- Step 14Detach the lower coolant pipe.Replacement: engine radiator – BMW 5 (E39). AUTODOC recommends:Caution! Coolant may leak from radiator openings.
- Step 15Unscrew the radiator fasteners. Use a drive socket #8. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 16Remove the radiator.
- Step 17Install the new radiator.
- Step 18Screw in the radiator fasteners. Use a drive socket #8. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 19Clean the coolant hose. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 20Attach the lower coolant pipe.
- Step 21Attach the clamp of the lower coolant pipe.
- Step 22Clean the coolant hose. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 23Attach the upper coolant hose.
- Step 24Attach the clamp of the upper coolant hose.
- Step 25Install the cooling fan. Install the fan shroud.
- Step 26Tighten the cooling fan fastener. Use a combination spanner #32 (2 pieces). Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 33 Nm torque.
