The vehicle must be on even keel, and if it is at an angle, the drain plug must be at the lowest point.All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Step 15
Undo the fasteners of the oil pan lower cover. Use a drive socket #10.
Step 16
Remove the oil pan cover.
Step 17
Put a waste oil container with at least 5 l capacity under the drainage hole.
Step 18
Unscrew the drain plug. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 19
Drain the used oil.
Replacement: engine oil and filter – Volvo V50 MW. Tip:
Caution! The oil may be hot.
Step 20
Clean the oil filter housing cap. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 21
Unscrew the filter housing cap together with the old filter element. Use a drive socket #27. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 22
Put the old oil filter in the container.
Replacement: engine oil and filter – Volvo V50 MW. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Move up the container. The oil starts to drain out of the drainage hole immediately after you have removed the oil filter.
Step 23
Cover the oil filter housing with a microfibre towel to prevent dirt and foreign objects from getting into the system.
Step 24
Detach the oil filter from the filter cover.
Step 25
Remove the oil filter cover O-ring. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 26
Clean the oil filter housing cap. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 27
Install a new O-ring to its mounting seat on the filter cover.
Step 28
Lubricate the rubber seal of the new filter with a little amount of fresh oil.
Step 29
Remove the microfibre towel from the oil filter housing.
Step 30
Install the new oil filter to the mounting seat on the filter cover.
Please note!
Make sure to install the filter correctly. Don't mix up the sides of the part.
Step 31
Screw the new filter into its place.
Step 32
Screw the cap. Use a drive socket #27. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 Nm torque.
Step 33
Remove the microfibre cloth from the turbocharger impeller.
Step 34
Install the air filter housing and fasten it.
Step 35
Attach the air inlet pipe to the turbocharger.
Step 36
Install the PCV pipe.
Step 37
Install the clamp of the crankcase ventilation hose.
Step 38
Install the air filter housing retaining spring.
Step 39
Fasten the clamp on the air intake hose. Use a drive socket #7. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 40
Plug in the mass air flow sensor conntector.
Please note!
Wait until the oil has completely drained from the drainage hole.
Step 41
Clean the area of the oil pan drainage hole.
Step 42
Screw in the new drainage plug and tighten it. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.
Step 43
Clean the area of the oil pan drainage hole. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 44
Reinstall the oil pan lower cover.
Step 45
Tighten the fasteners of the oil pan lower cover. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 46
Lower the car.
Step 47
Remove the oil filler cap.
Step 48
Insert the funnel.
Step 49
Pour oil into the engine through the filler. Required amount of oil: 4.1 L.
Replacement: engine oil and filter – Volvo V50 MW. Tip from AUTODOC:
Use the oil recommended by the manufacturer.
Step 50
Check the oil level using the dipstick. Top up oil if necessary.
Please note!
The oil level should be between the Min and Max marks.
Step 51
Install the engine cover and secure it.
AUTODOC recommends:
Make sure the engine cover is properly seated. It should not be displaced with respect to the guiding fasteners.Caution! Do not use excessive force during installation. This may damage the fasteners of the car. Volvo V50 MW

Screw in the engine cover fasteners. Use a drive socket #10.
Step 53
Install the oil filler cap.
Step 54
Tighten the oil filler cap.
Step 55
Run the engine for a few minutes. After the oil pressure warning light goes out, stop the engine.
Step 56
Check the oil level 5 minutes after the stop of the engine operation using a dipstick and add oil if necessary.
Please note!
The oil level should be between the Min and Max marks.Make sure that the oil filler cap is properly tightened.
Step 57
Check the threaded plug of the drainage hole and the oil filter seal for tightness. If necessary, carefully tighten them up.
Note that oil pressure warning light, which indicates insufficient pressure in the lubrication system, may be on for a longer time than usual. After a few seconds, the oil will fill all the channels, and the light will go out. To protect the environment from pollution, be sure to dispose of the used filters at special collection points.
