How to change rear springs / rear coil springs on AUDI A3 1 (8L1) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Springs for A3 Hatchback (8L1) and other AUDI models
Replacement: coil springs – Audi A3 8L1. Tip from AUTODOC:
Both coil springs of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the rear suspension.
Please note: all work on the car – Audi A3 8L1 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Replacement: coil springs – Audi A3 8L1. AUTODOC experts recommend:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 8
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16.
Step 9
Remove the support from under the rear arm.
Replacement: coil springs – Audi A3 8L1. Professionals recommend:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 10
Take out the spring.
Step 11
Clean the coil spring mounting seats.
Step 12
Inspect the rubber mounts of the suspension spring. Replace if necessary.
Step 13
Install the coil spring together with the rubber mounts into the mounting seats.
Step 14
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 15
Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Important! Be sure to use new fasteners. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 40 Nm torque.+90°
Step 16
Remove the support from under the rear arm.
Replacement: coil springs – Audi A3 8L1. Professionals recommend:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 17
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 18
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. Audi A3 8L1
Step 19
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 20
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 21
Remove the jacks and chocks.
