You need to remove the fuel pump that is in the tank, dismantle all the fuel pipes, remove the fuel tank fasteners and remove the tank.

To remove the diesel fuel tank from a 2015 VW Sharan with the exhaust running through it:

    1. Drain the fuel tank completely
    2. Disconnect the battery and fuel lines
    3. Remove the heat shield and exhaust components
    4. Unbolt the tank straps and support brackets
    5. Carefully lower the tank, minding the exhaust pipe
    6. Disconnect remaining electrical connections and fuel sender unit
    7. Remove the tank, being cautious of the exhaust pipe routing

Always work in a well-ventilated area and use proper safety equipment. Consider having a professional handle this complex job due to the unique exhaust configuration.

Blimey, that's a right faff! I had a similar issue with my Ford Territory diesel. The fuel tank removal was a nightmare with all those pipes and whatnot. Took me half a day and several cups of tea to sort it. Make sure you've got a mate to help - it's not a one-person job, unless you fancy being squashed like a bug!

@[craig_mills] ! That's a cracking guide, but you forgot to mention the most important step - popping down to the local for a pint after wrestling with that bloody tank! 😂 On a serious note, I'd recommend getting a diesel fuel tank treatment before removal. Helps clean out any gunk and makes the job a tad easier.

Anyone tried cleaning their diesel fuel tank without removing it? I've heard tales of brave souls attempting it, but I'm not sure I've got the stones for that. Might give it a go if I can find a decent diesel tank repair kit, though. Any recommendations?

Listen up, lads! If you're dealing with water removal from a diesel fuel tank, don't muck about. Get it sorted proper quick or you'll be in for a world of trouble. Had a mate who ignored it and ended up needing a full diesel tank repair. Cost him an arm and a leg, it did!

Crikey, all this talk of diesel fuel tank decommissioning is giving me flashbacks to when I worked at a garage. We had this old tank that needed sorting - took us ages to figure out how to clean out the old diesel fuel tank. Pro tip: invest in some good quality gloves and a sturdy pump. Your hands (and nose) will thank you later!
