Disappearing coolant after timing belt kit change AUDI A4 B9 Avant (8W5, 8WD) (08.2015 - ...)
@Tracey O´Connor05.09.2025 13:46K. D.AUTODOC expertRegarding the Audi A4 B9 with a 2.0 TFSI engine:
- Antifreeze level: This is most likely an air lock after replacing the timing belt. To remove it, warm up the engine, turn the heater on to maximum and increase the revs to 2500 rpm. Repeat until the level stabilises.
- Turbine: Its high temperature is normal. It can heat up to 900°C during operation. The air lock problem affects cooling, but it is not the cause of the ‘abnormal’ turbine heating. First, resolve the issue with the antifreeze level.- K. D.07.09.2025 11:21@Tracey O´ConnorMemberIs the same procedure for 4.0TDI engine?
I did not know that a trubo can reach such temperatures
@Graziana Venturi08.09.2025 16:10K. D.AUTODOC expertThe replacement process will be similar, but may differ in design. For more details, please refer to the repair manual for your car.

Good day!
Recently got a timing belt kit change and after driving for approx 500km low coolant warning came on. After topping it up and another 150km I see that the coolant dropped a little bit. There are no apparent leaks and no smoke from exhaust.
As I understand there maybe was an air pocket that is slowly disappearing. Maybe there is some procedure how to do it faster.
Also how hot should the turbo get? I think it is too hot. Possibly from the air in the system.
Thank you in advance for your replies!
