Replacement: front lower arm – VW Multivan T5. AUTODOC experts recommend:

The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: front lower arm – VW Multivan T5. Use the following procedure:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 3

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Replacement: strut mount – VW Multivan T5. AUTODOC experts recommend:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7

Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #22. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8

Disconnect the lower control arm from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 9

Unscrew the rear fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
Step 10

Remove the rear fastener of the control arm.

Step 11

Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #21. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 12

Remove the front fastener of the control arm.

Step 13

Remove the arm.
Step 14

Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 15

Install a new arm.

Replacement: front lower arm – VW Multivan T5. Professionals recommend:
During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.
Step 16

Install the control arm fasteners.
Step 17

Connect the lower control arm to the steering knuckle.

Step 18

Tighten the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the control arm. Use a drive socket #22. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.+90°
Step 19

Support the control arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.

AUTODOC recommends:
For tightening the fasteners correctly, you have to jack up the suspension components to their working position.
Step 20

Tighten the front fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.+120°
Step 21

Tighten the rear fastener connecting the arm to the body subframe. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.+120°
Step 22

Remove the support from under the control arm.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: suspension strut – VW Multivan T5. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 23

Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 24

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 25

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: strut mount – VW Multivan T5. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 26

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 27

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 28

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 180 Nm torque.
Step 29

Remove the jacks and chocks.
