Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W211. AUTODOC experts recommend:
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W211. Take the following steps:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W211. Tip from AUTODOC:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 9
Clean the fasteners connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 10
Unscrew the arm fastening from the subframe. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #E18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 12
Remove the arm. Use a crowbar.
Step 13
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 14
Install a new arm.
Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W211. Professionals recommend:
During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
Step 15
Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
Step 16
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 17
Screw the fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe.
Step 18
Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.+60°
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 19
Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 20
Tighten the arm fastening to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #E18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 80 Nm torque.+120°
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 21
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
AUTODOC recommends:
Mercedes W211 – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
Step 22
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 23
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: front lower arm – Mercedes W211. Tip:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 24
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. Mercedes W211
Step 25
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 26
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 nm torque.
Step 27
Remove the jacks and chocks.
