Replacement: windscreen wiper arm – VW Golf 5. AUTODOC experts recommend:

Replace the wiper arms in pairs.
Don't mix up the wiper arms on the driver's and passenger's side.
The replacement procedure is the same for both wiper arms.
Please note: all work on the car – VW Golf 5 – should be done with the engine switched off.

Carry out replacement in the following order:

Step 1

Open the hood.
Step 2

Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 3

Remove the windscreen wiper arm nut covers. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 4

Clean the fasteners of the wiper arms. Use a wire brush. Use WD-30 spray.
Step 5

Unscrew the fasteners of the windscreen wiper arms. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 6

Remove the wiper arms. Use a universal puller.
Step 7

Remove the wiper blades.
Step 8

Clean the pivots of the windscreen wiper arms. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 9

Treat the pivots of the windscreen wiper arms. Use copper grease.
Step 10

Attach the wiper blades to the new arms.
Step 11

Reinstall the wiper arms.

Replacement: windscreen wiper arm – VW Golf 5. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Make sure not to mix up the wiper arms on the driver's and passenger's sides.
Step 12

Tighten the wiper arm fasteners. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 16 Nm torque.
Step 13

Treat the wiper arm fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 14

Install the nut covers of the windscreen wiper arms.
Step 15

Remove the cap of the rear wiper arm fastener.
Step 16

Clean the rear wiper arm fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 17

Unscrew the rear wiper arm fastener. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 18

Remove the wiper arm. Use a universal puller.
Step 19

Clean the rear wiper arm mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 20

Treat the mounting seat of the rear wiper arm. Use copper grease.
Step 21

Install a new wiper arm.
Step 22

Screw in the rear wiper arm fastener. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 16 Nm torque.
Step 23

Treat the rear wiper arm fastener. Use copper grease.
Step 24

Install the cap of the rear wiper arm fastener.
Step 25

Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 26

Close the hood.
Step 27

Switch on the ignition.

Step 28

After installation check the wipers performance. The blades shouldn't intersect or bump against the windshield seal.

Step 29

Switch off the ignition.
