How to change rear brake cylinder on OPEL CORSA B TUTORIAL | AUTODOC
All the parts you need to replace – Wheel Cylinder for Corsa B Hatchback (S93) and other OPEL models
Replacement: wheel cylinder – Opel Corsa S93. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Replace the wheel brake cylinders of the rear drum brakes in pairs.
The replacement procedure is identical for the right and left wheel brake cylinders of the rear drum brakes.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: wheel cylinder – Opel Corsa S93. Recommended sequence of steps:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Replacement: wheel cylinder – Opel Corsa S93. Tip from AUTODOC:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Remove the hub bearing protection cap.Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 7
Remove the cotter pin securing the hub nut.Use round-nose pliers.
Step 8
Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut.Use a combination spanner #24.
Step 9
Remove the brake drum.
Replacement: wheel cylinder – Opel Corsa S93. Professionals recommend:
Examine the brake drum. Replace it if necessary.
Step 10
Unscrew the fastener connecting the brake pipe to the wheel cylinder.Use a flare nut spanner #10.
Step 11
Detach the brake pipe.
Replacement: wheel cylinder – Opel Corsa S93. AUTODOC recommends:
Immediately plug the brake line open end to prevent fluid leakage and ingress of dirt into the hydraulic system.
Step 12
Unscrew the wheel cylinder fastener.Use a drive socket #10.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 13
Remove the brake cylinder from the backplate.Use a crowbar.
Step 14
Clean the brake drum.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 15
Clean the brake pipe attachment spot and the brake drum fastening bolts on Opel Corsa S93.
Step 16
Install a new brake cylinder.
Step 17
Tighten the wheel cylinder fastener.Use a drive socket #10.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 21 nm torque.
Step 18
Attach the brake pipe.Use a flare nut spanner #10.
Step 19
Bleed the brake cylinder system.Use a combination spanner #9.
Replacement: wheel cylinder – Opel Corsa S93. Tip:
Make sure to set the protection cap on the bleeder valve.
Step 20
Tighten the fastener connecting the brake pipe to the wheel cylinder.Use a flare nut spanner #10.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 17 nm torque.
Step 21
Clean the hub.Use a wire brush.Treat the contacting surface.Use copper grease.
Step 22
Install a brake drum.
Step 23
Tighten the hub.Use a combination spanner #24.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 158 nm torque.
Step 24
Install the cotter pin of the hub bearing fastening nut.Use round-nose pliers.
Step 25
Install the hub bearing protection cap.Use a rubber mallet.
Step 26
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.Treat the surface where the wheel rim contacts the brake drum.Use copper grease.
Step 27
Install the wheel.
Replacement: wheel cylinder – Opel Corsa S93. AUTODOC experts recommend:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 28
Screw in the wheel bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 29
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 120 nm torque.
Step 30
Remove the jacks and chocks.
AUTODOC recommends:
Bleed the brake system after replacing the cylinder on Opel Corsa S93.Important! Replacement: wheel cylinder – Opel Corsa S93. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir and top up if necessary.Perform test braking when driving at an average speed, the Opel Corsa S93 should not pull to one side.
Step 31
Adjust the gap between the brake shoes and the drum on Opel Corsa S93, pressing the brake pedal 10-15 times.
