How to change spark plug on MERCEDES W202 [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
Spark plug
- The replacement procedure is the same for all spark plugs.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
- Step 1
Open the hood.
- Step 2
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
- Step 3
Detach the air intake hose clamp. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 4
Unplug the mass air flow sensor connector.
- Step 5
Disconnect the air intake pipe from the air filter housing.
- Step 6
Unscrew the clamp that fastens the air filter hose to the throttle body. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 7
Detach the vacuum pipe. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 8
Dismantle the air filter pipe.
- Step 9
Unscrew the engine cover fastener. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 10
Remove the engine cover. Use a flat screwdriver.
AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: spark plugs – Mercedes W202. To avoid damaging the part when removing it, do not use excessive force.
- Step 11
Remove the spark plug wire connectors from the spark plug wells.
Replacement: spark plugs – Mercedes W202. Professionals recommend:Be careful to avoid damaging spark plug wires.Remember the sequence of the spark plug wires connectors.
- Step 12
Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells.
Step 13
Unscrew the spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 14
Take out the spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket #16.
- Step 15
Apply a thin layer of a special high temperature anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs.
- Step 16
Install the new spark plugs into their mounting seats. Use the spark plug socket #16.
- Step 17
Screw new spark plugs and tighten them. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 27 nm torque.
Replacement: spark plugs – Mercedes W202. AUTODOC experts recommend:Don't tighten the plugs with excessive force. Exceeding tightening torque can damage the thread connection.Be careful when working with a spark plug wrench. Its skewing can cause damage to the threaded connection.
