How to change spark plug on BMW 1 Series E82 [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

Replacement: spark plugs – BMW E82. AUTODOC experts recommend:
- The replacement procedure is the same for all spark plugs.
- Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – BMW E82.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the hood.
- Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
- Step 3Unscrew the fasteners of the cabin filter housing cover. Use a drive socket #8. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 4Remove the cabin filter housing cover.Replacement: spark plugs – BMW E82. Tip:Do not apply excessive force when removing the part. Otherwise you may damage it.
- Step 5Remove the wiper arm covers.
- Step 6Detach the connectors from the climate control sensors.Step 7Remove the climate control sensors.
- Step 8Unscrew the fasteners of the lower part of the scuttle panel. Use a drive socket #8. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 9Detach the cable duct from the upper part of the microfilter housing. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 10Remove the lower part of the scuttle panel.
- Step 11Unscrew the engine cover fastener. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 12Remove the engine cover.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: spark plugs – BMW E82. Do not use excessive force when removing the part as this may damage it.
- Step 13Unplug the connectors from the ignition coils.
- Step 14Take out the ignition coil from the spark plug well.Replacement: spark plugs – BMW E82. AUTODOC recommends:Remember the sequence of steps for ignition coil demounting.
- Step 15Cover the cabin filter air ducts with a microfibre cloth to keep dirt and dust out.
- Step 16Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells.
- Step 17Unscrew the spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 18Take out the spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket #16.
- Step 19Apply a thin layer of a special high temperature anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs.
- Step 20Install the new spark plugs into their mounting seats. Use the spark plug socket #16.
- Step 21Screw new spark plugs and tighten them. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 27 nm torque.Replacement: spark plugs – BMW E82. Tip from AUTODOC experts:Don't tighten the plugs with excessive force. Exceeding tightening torque can damage the thread connection.Be careful when working with a spark plug wrench. Its skewing can cause damage to the threaded connection.
- Step 22Treat the ignition coil tips. Use high-temperature grease. Use a flat screwdriver.Step 23Install the ignition coils to the spark plug wells. Make sure you hear a click indicating that it is locked in place.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: spark plugs – BMW E82. Follow the installation steps.
