Replacement: spark plugs – BMW E82. AUTODOC experts recommend:
The replacement procedure is the same for all spark plugs.
Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – BMW E82.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Open the hood.
Step 2
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 3
Unscrew the fasteners of the cabin filter housing cover.Use a drive socket #8.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 4
Remove the cabin filter housing cover.
Replacement: spark plugs – BMW E82. Tip:
Do not apply excessive force when removing the part. Otherwise you may damage it.
Step 5
Remove the wiper arm covers.
Step 6
Detach the connectors from the climate control sensors.
Step 7
Remove the climate control sensors.
Step 8
Unscrew the fasteners of the lower part of the scuttle panel. Use a drive socket #8.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 9
Detach the cable duct from the upper part of the microfilter housing.Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 10
Remove the lower part of the scuttle panel.
Step 11
Unscrew the engine cover fastener.Use HEX No.H5.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 12
Remove the engine cover.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: spark plugs – BMW E82. Do not use excessive force when removing the part as this may damage it.
Step 13
Unplug the connectors from the ignition coils.
Step 14
Take out the ignition coil from the spark plug well.
Replacement: spark plugs – BMW E82. AUTODOC recommends:
Remember the sequence of steps for ignition coil demounting.
Step 15
Cover the cabin filter air ducts with a microfibre cloth to keep dirt and dust out.
Step 16
Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells.
Step 17
Unscrew the spark plugs.Use the spark plug socket #16.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 18
Take out the spark plugs.Use the spark plug socket #16.
Step 19
Apply a thin layer of a special high temperature anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs.
Step 20
Install the new spark plugs into their mounting seats.Use the spark plug socket #16.
Step 21
Screw new spark plugs and tighten them.Use the spark plug socket #16.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 27 nm torque.
Replacement: spark plugs – BMW E82. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Don't tighten the plugs with excessive force. Exceeding tightening torque can damage the thread connection.Be careful when working with a spark plug wrench. Its skewing can cause damage to the threaded connection.
Step 22
Treat the ignition coil tips. Use high-temperature grease.Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 23
Install the ignition coils to the spark plug wells.Make sure you hear a click indicating that it is locked in place.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: spark plugs – BMW E82. Follow the installation steps.
Step 24
Treat the ignition coil connector with electronic spray.The spray will protect the electrical contacts from corrosion, oxidation, and will reduce the contact resistance.
Step 25
Plug in the connectors of the ignition coils.
Step 26
Remove the microfibre cloth from the cabin filter air ducts.
Step 27
Install the engine cover and secure it.
AUTODOC recommends:
Make sure the engine cover is properly seated. It should not be displaced with respect to the guiding fasteners.Replacement: spark plugs – BMW E82. Do not use excessive force during installation. This may damage the fasteners.
Step 28
Screw in the engine cover fasteners.Use HEX No.H5.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 29
Reinstall the lower part of the scuttle panel.
Step 30
Screw in the fasteners of the lower part of the scuttle panel. Use a drive socket #8.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 31
Install the climate control sensors.
Step 32
Attach the connectors of the climate control sensors.
Step 33
Install the wiper arm covers.
Step 34
Attach the cable duct to the upper part of the microfilter housing.
Step 35
Reinstall the cabin filter housing cover.Make sure you hear a click indicating that it is locked in place.
Replacement: spark plugs – BMW E82. Tip from AUTODOC:
Do not apply excessive force when installing the part. Otherwise you may damage the fasteners.
Step 36
Screw in the fasteners of the cabin filter housing cover.Use a drive socket #8.Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 37
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 38
Close the hood.
Step 39
Run the engine for a few minutes.This is necessary in order to make sure that the component operates properly.
Step 40
Shut off the engine.
