Replacement: engine mounts – BMW 7 (E38). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 4
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 5Lift the car using a jack or place it over an inspection pit.Step 6
Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: engine mounts – BMW 7 (E38). AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. - Step 7
Remove the wheel. - Step 8
Detach the vacuum hose from the engine mount. - Step 9
Treat the lower fastener of the engine mount. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 10
Unscrew the lower fastener of the engine mount. Use a drive socket #16. - Step 11
Loosen the air intake fastening. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 12
Detach the air duct housing from the air filter housing. - Step 13
Unscrew the upper fastener of the engine mount. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 14
Support the engine in the oil pan area. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.Replacement: engine mounts – BMW 7 (E38). Tip:Make sure that the engine is supported. - Step 15
Remove the engine mount. Use a crowbar.Replacement: engine mounts – BMW 7 (E38). AUTODOC experts recommend:Carefully check the other engine mounts and replace them if necessary. - Step 16
Install the engine mount to its mounting seat. Use a crowbar. - Step 17
Remove the support from under the engine.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: engine mounts – BMW 7 (E38). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
