The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: rear suspension lower trailing arm – MERCEDES-BENZ CLS (C219). Use the following procedure:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. MERCEDES-BENZ CLS (C219)
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Unscrew the fasteners of the plastic car body protective cover. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 7
Remove the plastic car body protective cover.
Step 8
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 9
Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use XZN #12. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 10
Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use XZN #12. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 12
Remove the fastening bolts. Use XZN #12. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 13
Remove the arm. Use a crowbar.
Step 14
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 15
Install a new arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: rear suspension lower trailing arm – MERCEDES-BENZ CLS (C219). Use only new bolts and nuts for installation.
Step 16
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 17
Screw the fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use XZN #12. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 18
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 19
Screw in the fasteners connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use XZN #12. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 20
Raise the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.
Step 21
Tighten the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.+90°

Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 22
Tighten the fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a drive socket #18. Use XZN #12. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.+90°

Step 23
Remove the support from under the arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: rear suspension lower trailing arm – MERCEDES-BENZ CLS (C219). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 24
Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 25
Reinstall the plastic car body protective cover.
Step 26
Screw in the fasteners of the plastic car body protective cover. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 27
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 28
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: rear suspension lower trailing arm – MERCEDES-BENZ CLS (C219). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 29
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. MERCEDES-BENZ CLS (C219)
Step 30
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 31
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 130 Nm torque.
Step 32
Remove the jacks and chocks.
