Replacement: strut mount – VW Golf 4. AUTODOC experts recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the right and left shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
- Both mounts of the rear shock struts should be replaced simultaneously.
- During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: strut mount – VW Golf 4. Take the following steps:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: strut mount – VW Golf 4. Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6Clean the shock absorber fasteners.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.Step 7
Secure the rear axle beam.Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 8
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber.Use a combination spanner #16.Use a drive socket #16.Use a ratchet wrench.AUTODOC recommends:VW Golf 4 – To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber while unscrewing the fastening bolts. - Step 9Remove the fastening bolt.Step 10.1
Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber.Step 10.2
Use a drive socket #16.Use a tap wrench. - Step 11
Remove the shock absorber. - Step 12
Remove the protective cap of the shock absorber mount. Use a flat screwdriver. - Step 13Clean the shock absorber rod fastener.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.Step 14
Remove the shock absorber piston rod fastening.Use a drive socket #15.Use a ratchet wrench.Use an adjustable wrench. - Step 15
Remove the shock absorber mount, boot and bump stop. - Step 16
Install the new mount, boot, and bump stop on the shock absorber. - Step 17
Screw the shock strut piston rod upper fastening.Use a drive socket #15.Use an adjustable wrench.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 25 Nm torque.
