Replacement: strut mount – VW Golf 4. AUTODOC experts recommend:
The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the right and left shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
Both mounts of the rear shock struts should be replaced simultaneously.
During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: strut mount – VW Golf 4. Take the following steps:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Replacement: strut mount – VW Golf 4. Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the shock absorber fasteners.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Secure the rear axle beam.Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 8
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber.Use a combination spanner #16.Use a drive socket #16.Use a ratchet wrench.
AUTODOC recommends:
VW Golf 4 – To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber while unscrewing the fastening bolts.
Step 9
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 10.1
Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber.
Step 10.2
Use a drive socket #16.Use a tap wrench.
Step 11
Remove the shock absorber.
Step 12
Remove the protective cap of the shock absorber mount. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 13
Clean the shock absorber rod fastener.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 14
Remove the shock absorber piston rod fastening.Use a drive socket #15.Use a ratchet wrench.Use an adjustable wrench.
Step 15
Remove the shock absorber mount, boot and bump stop.
Step 16
Install the new mount, boot, and bump stop on the shock absorber.
Step 17
Screw the shock strut piston rod upper fastening.Use a drive socket #15.Use an adjustable wrench.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 25 Nm torque.
Step 18
Install the protective cap of the shock absorber mount.
Step 19
Clean the shock absorber mounting seats.Use a wire brush.Use WD-40 spray.
Step 20
Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and secure it.
Replacement: strut mount – VW Golf 4. Professionals recommend:
To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber cautiously tight when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 21
Tighten the top shock absorber fastening.Use a drive socket #16.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.+90°
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 22
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 23
Screw in the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #16.
Step 24
Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #16.Use a drive socket #16.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 40 Nm torque.+90°
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 25
Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: strut mount – VW Golf 4. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 26
Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 27
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 28
Clean the brake disk surface.Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: strut mount – VW Golf 4. AUTODOC recommends:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 29
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. VW Golf 4
Step 30
Screw in the wheel bolts.Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 31
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts.Use a torque wrench.Tighten it to 120 nm torque.
Step 32
Remove the jacks and chocks.
