Replacement: shock absorbers – OPEL TIGRA TwinTop. Tip from AUTODOC experts:

Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
Please note: all work on the car – OPEL TIGRA TwinTop – should be done with the engine switched off.

Carry out replacement in the following order:

Step 1

Open the boot lid.

Step 2

Move the folding shelf and detach it from the retainers. By doing this, you will get access to the side trim plastic panels.

Step 3

Remove the protective cap of the shock absorber mount.
Step 4

Clean the fasteners of the shock absorber upper mount. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 5

Loosen the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #16. Use a shock absorber socket DD№6. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 6

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 7

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 8

Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.

Step 9

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Replacement: shock absorbers – OPEL TIGRA TwinTop. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 10

Remove the wheel.
Step 11

Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 12

Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 13

Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #E14.
Step 14

Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 15

Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.

AUTODOC recommends:
OPEL TIGRA TwinTop – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
Step 16

Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber.

Replacement: shock absorbers – OPEL TIGRA TwinTop. Tip:
To avoid injuries, hold the shock absorber when undoing the fastening bolts.
Step 17

Remove the shock absorber.

Replacement: shock absorbers – OPEL TIGRA TwinTop. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
Step 18

Clean the shock absorber mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 19

Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and secure it.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the shock absorber while screwing in the fastening bolts. OPEL TIGRA TwinTop
Step 20

Screw the upper fastener of the shock absorber.
Step 21

Install the fastening bolt.
Step 22

Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 23

Screw in the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #E14.
Step 24

Raise the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.
Step 25

Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #E14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 26

Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.

Replacement: shock absorbers – OPEL TIGRA TwinTop. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 27

Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 28

Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 29

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. OPEL TIGRA TwinTop
Step 30

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 31

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 nm torque.
Step 32

Tighten the top shock absorber fastening. Use a drive socket #16. Use a shock absorber socket DD№6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 65 Nm torque.
Step 33

Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 34

Install the protective cap of the shock absorber mount.
Step 35

Install the folding shelf to its mounting seat.

Step 36

Close the lid of the luggage compartment.

Step 37

Remove the jacks and chocks.
