Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: shock absorbers – Citroen C3 1. Take the following steps:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3

Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Citroen C3 1
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7

Loosen the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #21. Use a tap wrench.
Step 8

Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 9

Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #21. Use a tap wrench.
Step 10

Remove the plastic clips of the wheel arch liner. Use a clip removal tool.
Step 11

Remove the wheel arch cover.
Step 12

Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 13

Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #16. Use a tap wrench.

Replacement: shock absorbers – Citroen C3 1. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injuries, hold the shock absorber when undoing the fastening bolts.
Step 14

Remove the fastening bolt. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
Step 15

Remove the fastening bolt. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
Step 16

Remove the shock absorber.

Replacement: shock absorbers – Citroen C3 1. Tip from AUTODOC:
Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
Step 17

Clean the shock absorber mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 18

Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and secure it.

Install the fastening bolt.

To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber cautiously tight when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 20

Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 21

Install the fastening bolt.
Step 22

Screw the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #16.
Step 23

Screw in the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #21. Use a combination spanner #21.
Step 24

Raise the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.
Step 25

Screw in the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #21. Use a combination spanner #21.
Step 26

Tighten the top shock absorber fastening. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.
Step 27

Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 93 Nm torque.
Step 28

Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: shock absorbers – Citroen C3 1. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 29

Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 30

Install the wheel arch cover to its mounting seat.
Step 31

Reinstall the plastic clips of the wheel arch liner.
Step 32

Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 33

Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 34

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Citroen C3 1
Step 35

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 36

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 nm torque.
Step 37

Remove the jacks and chocks.
