How to change rear springs / coil springs on VW POLO 5 (612) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

All the parts you need to replace – Springs for Polo Saloon (602, 604, 612, 614) and other VW models

Replacement: coil springs – VW Polo 5. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
- Both coil springs of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the rear suspension.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: coil springs – VW Polo 5. Take the following steps:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports. - Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: coil springs – VW Polo 5. Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a crowbar. - Step 7
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 8
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a tap wrench. - Step 9
Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 10
Remove the fastening bolt. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 11
Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: coil springs – VW Polo 5. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms. - Step 12Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.Step 13Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a tap wrench.Step 14
Remove the fastening bolt. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 15
Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.AUTODOC recommends:VW Polo 5 – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car. - Step 16
Take out the spring.Replacement: coil springs – VW Polo 5. AUTODOC recommends:Inspect the rubber mounts of the suspension spring. Replace if necessary. - Step 17
Remove the rubber spring spacer. - Step 18
Clean the coil spring mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 19
Install the rubber spacer on the new coil spring. - Step 20
Install the coil spring together with the rubber mounts into the mounting seats. - Step 21Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.Step 22
Install the fastening bolt. - Step 23
Screw in the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
