Replacement: coil springs – VW BORA (1J2). AUTODOC recommends:
- Both coil springs of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the rear suspension.
- Please note: all work on the car – VW BORA (1J2) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW BORA (1J2) - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 7Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 8
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 9Remove the fastening bolt.Step 10Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.AUTODOC recommends:Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.Step 11Pull down the rear suspension beam. Use a crowbar.Step 12
Take out the spring. - Step 13
Remove the rubber spring spacer.Replacement: coil springs – VW BORA (1J2). Professionals recommend:Inspect the rubber mounts of the suspension spring. Replace if necessary. - Step 14
Install the rubber spacer on the new coil spring. - Step 15Pull down the rear suspension beam. Use a crowbar.Step 16
Install the coil spring together with the rubber mounts into the mounting seats.
