Tools
Replacement: coil springs – VW BORA (1J2). Tools you need:
Wire brush
WD-40 spray
Brake cleaner
Copper grease
High-temperature ceramic grease
Torque wrench
Combination spanner #16
Drive socket # 16
Wheel impact socket #17
Ratchet wrench
Hydraulic transmission jack
Crow bar
Hammer
Wheel chock
Replacement: coil springs – VW BORA (1J2). AUTODOC recommends:
  • Both coil springs of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
  • The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the rear suspension.
  • Please note: all work on the car – VW BORA (1J2) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
  1. Step 1

    Secure the wheels with chocks.
  2. Step 2

    Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
  3. Step 3
    Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
    Step 4

    Unscrew the wheel bolts.

    Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW BORA (1J2)
  4. Step 5
    Changing Springs on VW Bora Saloon (1J2) 2.0 2001 by yourself
    Remove the wheel.
  5. Step 6
    How to remove VW BORA 2.3 V5 2002 Springs - online easy-to-follow instructions
    Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
  6. Step 7
    Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
    Step 8

    Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
  7. Step 9
    Remove the fastening bolt.
    Step 10
    Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.
    AUTODOC recommends:
    Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
    Step 11
    Pull down the rear suspension beam. Use a crowbar.
    Step 12

    Take out the spring.
  8. Step 13

    Remove the rubber spring spacer.
    Replacement: coil springs – VW BORA (1J2). Professionals recommend:
    Inspect the rubber mounts of the suspension spring. Replace if necessary.
  9. Step 14

    Install the rubber spacer on the new coil spring.

    Pull down the rear suspension beam. Use a crowbar.
