Replacement: coil springs – Nissan X Trail T30. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Both coil springs of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the rear suspension.
Please note: all work on the car – Nissan X Trail T30 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Open the boot lid.
Step 2
Remove the cover of the boot side lining. Use a plastic trim tool.
Step 3
Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 4
Loosen the suspension strut rod nut. Don't unscrew it completely. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 5
Loosen the upper fasteners of the suspension strut. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
Replacement: coil springs – Nissan X Trail T30. Professionals recommend:
Do not completely unscrew the upper fasteners as they may hold also other suspension components.
Step 6
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 7
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 8
Raise the car.
Replacement: coil springs – Nissan X Trail T30. Tip from AUTODOC:
If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 9
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Nissan X Trail T30
Step 10
Remove the wheel.
Step 11
Clean the fastener that connects the sway bar link to the suspension strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 12
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 13
Remove the stabilizer rod.
Step 14
Remove the fastener attaching the brake hose to the shock strut. Use a crowbar. Use a hammer.
Step 15
Detach the brake hose from the shock strut.
Step 16
Clean the fastener that connects the suspension strut to the stub axle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 17
Unscrew the fastener that connects the suspension strut to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 18
Support the rear knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 19
Unscrew the upper fasteners of the shock strut.
AUTODOC recommends:
Nissan X Trail T30 – To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber while unscrewing the fastening bolts.
Step 20
Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 21
Detach the shock absorber from the rear knuckle. Use a crowbar.
Step 22
Remove the suspension strut.
Step 23
Clean the mounting seats of the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 24
Set the suspension strut on the spring compressor tool.
AUTODOC recommends:
Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
Step 25
Compress the spring.
Step 26
Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 27
Remove the top strut mount.
Step 28
Remove the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: coil springs – Nissan X Trail T30. Carefully inspect the mount, the boot, and the bump stop of the shock absorber. Replace if necessary.
Step 29
Release the coil spring.
Step 30
Remove the spring.
Step 31
Install the spring on the shock absorber.
Step 32
Compress the spring.
Step 33
Install the dust sleeve and the bump stop on the new shock absorber.
Step 34
Install the upper strut mount and the strut mount bearing.
Replacement: coil springs – Nissan X Trail T30. AUTODOC recommends:
Make sure that the suspension strut is installed in the correct position, according to the markings.
Step 35
Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a 17-mm strut nut socket. Use a D10-mm strut nut socket. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 nm torque.
AUTODOC recommends:
Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
Step 36
Decompress the spring.
Step 37
Treat the shock strut rod. Use copper grease.
Step 38
Remove the assembled shock strut.
Step 39
Install the shock strut into the wheel arch.
Step 40
Attach the shock absorber to the rear knuckle.
Step 41
Install the fastening bolts.
Step 42
Secure the upper fasteners of the shock strut. Do not tighten it. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
AUTODOC recommends:
Nissan X Trail T30 – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 43
Tighten the fastener that connects the suspension strut to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 140 Nm torque.
Step 44
Attach the brake hose to the suspension strut.
Step 45
Install the brake hose retaining clip. Use a hammer.
Step 46
Remove the support from under the rear knuckle.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: coil springs – Nissan X Trail T30. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 47
Ιnstall the transverse stabilizer link.
Step 48
Tighten the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 42 Nm torque.
Step 49
Treat the fastener that connects the sway bar link to the suspension strut. Treat the shock strut fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 50
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 51
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 52
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: coil springs – Nissan X Trail T30. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 53
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Nissan X Trail T30 – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 54
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 55
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 118 Nm torque.
Step 56
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Step 57
Tighten the upper fasteners of the shock strut. Use a drive socket #14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 45 Nm torque.
Step 58
Treat the shock strut fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 59
Install the cover of the boot side lining.
Step 60
Close the lid of the luggage compartment.
