Replacement: brake shoes – VW CADDY II Estate (9K9B). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Replace brake shoes as a set on an axle. This will ensure efficient braking.
- The replacement procedure is identical for brake shoes on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – VW CADDY II Estate (9K9B) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW CADDY II Estate (9K9B)
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean the brake drum fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 7Unscrew the brake drum fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 8Remove the brake drum.
- Step 9Pull both brake shoes with the adjuster from the working brake cylinder, avoiding damage to the boots. Use pliers.
- Step 10Take out brake pad retainer springs from the holes. Use pliers.
- Step 11Remove the lower return spring of brake shoes. Use pliers.Step 12Remove both shoes from the mounting bracket. Use pliers.Replacement: brake shoes – VW CADDY II Estate (9K9B). Tip from AUTODOC:Don't press the brake pedal after removing the rear brake drum shoes. This will cause the piston to fall out of the brake cylinder, leakage of brake fluid and depressurization of the system.
- Step 13Disconnect the parking brake cable.
- Step 14Perform further demounting of the upper retaining spring and the adjuster mechanism. Use pliers.
- Step 15Clean the fasteners of the brake shoes. Use a wire brush.Step 16Install the upper retaining springs and adjustment mechanism on new brake shoes. Use pliers. Use round-nose pliers.
