Replacement: brake shoes – OPEL CORSA C Box (F08, W5L). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Replace brake shoes as a set on an axle. This will ensure efficient braking.
- The replacement procedure is identical for brake shoes on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – OPEL CORSA C Box (F08, W5L) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the car.Replacement: brake shoes – OPEL CORSA C Box (F08, W5L). Tip:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. OPEL CORSA C Box (F08, W5L)
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Remove the wheel hub nut cap. Use a crowbar. Use a hammer.
- Step 7Remove the cotter pin securing the hub nut. Use a crowbar. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 8Unscrew the hub nut. Use a drive socket #24. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 9Remove the wheel bearing washer. Use a crowbar.
- Step 10Remove the wheel hub bearing. Use a crowbar.
- Step 11Remove the brake drum assembled with the wheel hub bearing.Replacement: brake shoes – OPEL CORSA C Box (F08, W5L). Tip from AUTODOC experts:Examine the brake drum. Replace it if necessary.
- Step 12Clean the fasteners of the brake shoes. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 13Loosen the brake shoe adjuster. Use a crowbar.
- Step 14Remove the upper return spring of the brake shoes. Use long nose pliers.
- Step 15Remove the hold-down spring. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 16Remove the retainers of the drum brake shoes. Use a brake shoe retaining spring compressor.
- Step 17Detach the brake shoe from the lower spring.
- Step 18Remove the right brake shoe.
- Step 19Remove the lower return spring of the brake shoes.
- Step 20Disconnect the parking brake cable.
- Step 21Remove the left brake shoe.Replacement: brake shoes – OPEL CORSA C Box (F08, W5L). Tip from AUTODOC:Don't press the brake pedal after removing the rear brake drum shoes. This will cause the piston to fall out of the brake cylinder, leakage of brake fluid and depressurization of the system.
- Step 22Clean the mounting seats of the brake shoes. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.Replacement: brake shoes – OPEL CORSA C Box (F08, W5L). Tip from AUTODOC experts:Make sure to follow the assembly steps in the right order.
- Step 23Connect the parking brake cable to the parking brake lever.
- Step 24Install a new left brake shoe.
- Step 25Install the lower return spring.
- Step 26Remove the upper spring and the adjuster.
- Step 27Remove the circlip. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 28Remove the brake shoe adjuster lever.
- Step 29Clean the mounting seat of the bushing. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 30Remove the bushing. Use water pump pliers.
- Step 31Clean the bushing. Use a wire brush.
- Step 32Install the bushing on a new brake shoe. Use water pump pliers.
- Step 33Install the brake shoe adjuster lever.
- Step 34Install the circlip.
