All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: brake caliper – VW Caddy 3 Kombi. Recommended sequence of steps:

Step 1

Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Step 2

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 3

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 4

Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 5

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Replacement: brake caliper – VW Caddy 3 Kombi. Professionals recommend:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 6

Remove the wheel.
Step 7

Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 8

Disconnect the ABS sensor electric socket. Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor plug. Remove the ABS sensor connector. Remove the connector of the brake pad wear sensor.

Step 9

Press the parking brake actuator lever on the brake caliper. Release the parking brake cable. Use water pump pliers.

Please note!
Some cars are not equipped with the brake pad wear sensor.
Step 10

Release the ABS sensor cable from the holder on the brake caliper.
Step 11

Compress two retainers of the parking brake cable. Detach the parking brake cable from the bracket on the brake caliper.

Step 12

Clean the area where the brake hose is connected to the caliper, and the guide pins area. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: brake caliper – VW Caddy 3 Kombi. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 13

Put a container for gathering brake fluid beneath.
Step 14

Clamp the brake hose off using a brake hose clamp.
Step 15

Unscrew the brake hose from the brake caliper. Use a combination spanner #12. Move the brake hose aside. Tie the brake hose to the car body with a hook or a piece of wire.
Step 16

Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a combination spanner #15. Retain the guide pin with another spanner.
Step 17

Remove the brake caliper.

Replacement: brake caliper – VW Caddy 3 Kombi. Professionals recommend:
When replacing a brake caliper it is recommended to replace brake pads, check the state of the brake discs and replace them with new ones if necessary.If going to use the old brake pads, clean them.After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 18

Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.

After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 19

Remove the guide pins from the brake caliper.
Step 20

Clean old grease and rust stains, if there are any, from the caliper guide pins and guide pin boots. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: brake caliper – VW Caddy 3 Kombi. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.If no new guide pins were supplied in a kit with the new brake calipers, use the old pins.
Step 21

Lubricate guide pins with special brake grease.

Step 22

Treat the contact surfaces between the brake pads and the brake caliper bracket. Use anti-squeal paste.
Step 23

Install the new boots of the brake caliper guide pins.
Step 24

Screw in the guide pins.
Step 25

Install the brake caliper together with the pads.

Replacement: brake caliper – VW Caddy 3 Kombi. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Hold up the brake caliper.
Step 26

Tighten the guide pins. Use a combination spanner #15. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 35 Nm torque.
Step 27

Clean dirt from the brake hose bolt. Use a brake cleaner.

Replacement: brake caliper – VW Caddy 3 Kombi. AUTODOC recommends:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 28

Install and fix the brake hose into a new caliper. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 14 Nm torque.
Step 29

Secure the parking brake cable.

Step 30

Install the ABS sensor cable in the holder on the brake caliper. Connect the ABS sensor electric socket. Connect the brake pad wear sensor plug.
Step 31

Remove the brake hose clamp.

Replacement: brake caliper – VW Caddy 3 Kombi. Tip:
Bleed the brake caliper system.
Step 32

Clean the hub. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 33

Install the wheel.

Replacement: brake caliper – VW Caddy 3 Kombi. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 34

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 35

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 36

Remove the jacks and chocks.

Replacement: brake caliper – VW Caddy 3 Kombi. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank and refill if necessary.
Step 37

Tighten the brake fluid reservoir cap. Close the hood.
