Replacement: brake caliper – MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS Convertible (A124). Tip from AUTODOC:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right brake calipers on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS Convertible (A124) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.Step 2Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 3Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 4Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 5Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS Convertible (A124)
- Step 6Remove the wheel.
- Step 7Remove the brake pads retaining clips. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
- Step 8Remove the retaining spring of the brake pads.
- Step 9Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.Step 10Remove the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 11Clamp the brake hose off using a brake hose clamp.
- Step 12Loosen the brake hose fastening. Use a flare nut spanner #14.
- Step 13Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 14Unscrew the brake caliper fasteners. Use a combination spanner #17.
- Step 15Remove the brake caliper.
- Step 16Disconnect the brake hose. Use a flare nut spanner #14.
- Step 17Treat the brake hose. Use a brake cleaner.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: brake caliper – MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS Convertible (A124). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
- Step 18Install and fix the brake hose into a new caliper.
- Step 19Install the brake caliper and fix it. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 Nm torque.
- Step 20Install the brake pads.
- Step 21Install the retaining spring of the brake pads.
- Step 22Install the brake pads retaining clips. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer. Use a crowbar.
