Replacement: handbrake shoe – MERCEDES-BENZ S-CLASS (W126). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: handbrake shoe – MERCEDES-BENZ S-CLASS (W126). Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
- Step 3Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 4Loosen the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 5Raise the car.AUTODOC recommends:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 6Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: handbrake shoe – MERCEDES-BENZ S-CLASS (W126). AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 7Remove the wheel.
- Step 8Clean the brake pad guide pins. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 9Remove the brake pad guide pins. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
- Step 10Remove the retaining spring of the brake pads.
- Step 11Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar (2 pieces).
- Step 12Remove the brake pads.
- Step 13Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 14Unscrew the brake caliper fasteners. Use a combination spanner #17.
- Step 15Remove the fastening bolts.
- Step 16Remove the brake caliper.Replacement: handbrake shoe – MERCEDES-BENZ S-CLASS (W126). Tip:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.
- Step 17Clean the brake disc fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 18Unscrew the brake disc fasteners. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 19Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 20Release the parking brake adjuster. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 21Remove the brake disc.
- Step 22Remove the lower brake shoe return spring. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 23Remove the hold-down springs of the parking brake shoes. Use long nose pliers.
- Step 24Remove the parking brake shoes.
- Step 25Clean the mounting seats of the parking brake shoes. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 26Remove the parking brake adjuster.
- Step 27Clean the parking brake adjuster. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 28Remove the upper return spring.Step 29Install the upper return spring.
- Step 30Install the parking brake adjuster.
- Step 31Install new parking brake shoes.
