AUTODOC recommends:

Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your VW POLO PLAYA Scenic car.
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
Please note: all work on the car – VW POLO PLAYA – should be done with the engine switched off.

Carry out replacement in the following order:

Step 1

Open the bonnet.

Step 2

Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Step 3

Secure the wheels with chocks.

Step 4

Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #30. Use a tap wrench.
Step 5

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 6

Raise the car.

Replacement: wheel bearing – VW POLO PLAYA. Tip:
If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 7

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW POLO PLAYA
Step 8

Remove the wheel.
Step 9

Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 10

Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 11

Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 12

Remove the brake caliper.

Replacement: wheel bearing – VW POLO PLAYA. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.
Step 13

Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.

Step 14

Remove the brake disc.
Step 15

Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 16

Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #30. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 17

Remove the fastening nut.
Step 18

Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 19

Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 20

Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 21

Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 22

Unscrew the fasteners connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 23

Clean the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 24

Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 25

Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.

Replacement: wheel bearing – VW POLO PLAYA. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
Step 26

Disconnect the ball joint from the arm.
Step 27

Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 28

Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 29

Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
Step 30

Clean the fasteners of the brake disc cover. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 31

Unscrew the fasteners of the brake disc cover. Use a drive socket #8. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 32

Remove the brake disc cover.
Step 33

Remove the wheel hub from the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 34

Clean the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 35

Remove the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
Step 36

Press out the wheel hub bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 37

Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 38

Press out the inner bearing race that is remaining on the hub. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use a bearing separator.
Step 39

Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 40

Press-fit the new bearing into the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.

Replacement: wheel bearing – VW POLO PLAYA. Tip:
Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat.
Step 41

Install the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
Step 42

Install the wheel hub on the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.

AUTODOC recommends:
Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
Step 43

Install the brake disc cover.
Step 44

Tighten the fasteners of the brake disc back plate. Use a drive socket #8. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 5 Nm torque.
Step 45

Clean the mounting seats of the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 46

Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 47

Treat the splines of the driveshaft CV joint. Use copper grease.
Step 48

Clean the ball joint mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 49

Install the steering knuckle on the CV axle.
Step 50

Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle.

Step 51

Install the fastening bolts.
Step 52

Attach the ball joint to the control arm.
Step 53

Install the fastening bolts.

Step 54

Screw in the fastener connecting the ball joint to the control arm. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 55

Remove the support from under the arm.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – VW POLO PLAYA. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 56

Screw in the fasteners connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 57

Install the fastening nut.
Step 58

Screw in the nut of the CV axle. Use a drive socket #30. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 59

Clean the mounting seat of the tie rod end. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 60

Treat the mounting seats of the tie rod end. Use copper grease.
Step 61

Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
Step 62

Screw on the fastening nut that connects the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.

Step 63

Tighten the fastening nut connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 35 nm torque.
Step 64

Tighten the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the control arm. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 20 Nm torque. +90°
Step 65

Tighten the lower fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 40 Nm torque. +90°
Step 66

Clean the hub. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 67

Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 68

Treat the hub where it contacts the brake disk. Use copper grease.
Step 69

Install the brake disc.
Step 70

Tighten the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 4 Nm torque.
Step 71

Install the brake caliper and fix it.
Step 72

Install the fastening bolts.
Step 73

Tighten the brake caliper fasteners. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 Nm torque.
Step 74

Treat the fasteners of the ball joint. Treat the shock strut fasteners. Treat the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use copper grease.
Step 75

Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 76

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 77

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – VW POLO PLAYA. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 78

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. VW POLO PLAYA
Step 79

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 80

Lower the car.

Step 81

Tighten the drive shaft nut. Use a drive socket #30. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 175 Nm torque.
Step 82

Tighten the wheel bolts using a criss-cross pattern. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 83

Remove the jacks and chocks.

Replacement: wheel bearing – VW POLO PLAYA. AUTODOC recommends:
Without starting the engine, press the brake pedal several times until you feel significant resistance.
Step 84

Tighten the brake fluid reservoir cap. Close the hood.
