AUTODOC recommends:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your VW POLO PLAYA Scenic car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – VW POLO PLAYA – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
- Step 3Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 4Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #30. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 5Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 6Raise the car.Replacement: wheel bearing – VW POLO PLAYA. Tip:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 7Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW POLO PLAYA
- Step 8Remove the wheel.
- Step 9Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 10Remove the fastening bolts.
- Step 11Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 12Remove the brake caliper.Replacement: wheel bearing – VW POLO PLAYA. AUTODOC experts recommend:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.
- Step 13Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.Step 14Remove the brake disc.
- Step 15Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 16Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #30. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 17Remove the fastening nut.
- Step 18Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 19Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 20Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
- Step 21Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 22Unscrew the fasteners connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 23Clean the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 24Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 25Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.Replacement: wheel bearing – VW POLO PLAYA. Tip from AUTODOC experts:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
- Step 26Disconnect the ball joint from the arm.
- Step 27Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 28Remove the fastening bolts.
- Step 29Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
- Step 30Clean the fasteners of the brake disc cover. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 31Unscrew the fasteners of the brake disc cover. Use a drive socket #8. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 32Remove the brake disc cover.
- Step 33Remove the wheel hub from the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
- Step 34Clean the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 35Remove the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
- Step 36Press out the wheel hub bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
- Step 37Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 38Press out the inner bearing race that is remaining on the hub. Use a bush and bearing driver set. Use a bearing separator.
- Step 39Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 40Press-fit the new bearing into the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.Replacement: wheel bearing – VW POLO PLAYA. Tip:Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat.
- Step 41Install the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
- Step 42Install the wheel hub on the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.AUTODOC recommends:Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
- Step 43Install the brake disc cover.
- Step 44Tighten the fasteners of the brake disc back plate. Use a drive socket #8. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 5 Nm torque.
- Step 45Clean the mounting seats of the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 46Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 47Treat the splines of the driveshaft CV joint. Use copper grease.
- Step 48Clean the ball joint mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 49Install the steering knuckle on the CV axle.
