AUTODOC recommends:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your VAUXHALL CORSA Mk I (B) car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – VAUXHALL CORSA Mk I (B) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the car.Replacement: wheel bearing – VAUXHALL CORSA Mk I (B). Professionals recommend:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VAUXHALL CORSA Mk I (B)
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Remove the wheel hub nut cap. Use a crowbar. Use a hammer.
- Step 7Remove the cotter pin securing the hub nut. Use a crowbar. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 8Install the wheel.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. VAUXHALL CORSA Mk I (B)
- Step 9Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 10Lower the car.
- Step 11Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #30. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 12Raise the car.AUTODOC recommends:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
- Step 13Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VAUXHALL CORSA Mk I (B)
- Step 14Remove the wheel.
- Step 15Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #30. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 16Remove the wheel bearing washer. Use a crowbar.
- Step 17Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 18Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 19Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use HEX No.H10. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 20Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.Replacement: wheel bearing – VAUXHALL CORSA Mk I (B). Tip from AUTODOC experts:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
- Step 21Clean the brake disc fastener. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 22Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use a Phillips screwdriver.
- Step 23Remove the brake disc.Replacement: wheel bearing – VAUXHALL CORSA Mk I (B). AUTODOC experts recommend:If necessary, use a rubber mallet.
- Step 24Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 25Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 26Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
- Step 27Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 28Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 29Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 30Clean the lower fastener connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 31Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 32Clean the ABS sensor fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 33Unscrew the ABS sensor fastener. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 34Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 35Disconnect the ABS sensor.
- Step 36Remove the fastening bolts.
- Step 37Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
- Step 38Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle.Replacement: wheel bearing – VAUXHALL CORSA Mk I (B). AUTODOC recommends:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
- Step 39Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
- Step 40Clean the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 41Remove the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
- Step 42Remove the wheel hub from the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
- Step 43Clean the wheel hub bearing retaining ring.
- Step 44Clean the fasteners of the brake disc cover. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 45Unscrew the fasteners of the brake disc cover. Use a Phillips screwdriver.
- Step 46Remove the brake disc cover.
- Step 47Remove the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
- Step 48Press out the wheel hub bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
- Step 49Press out the inner bearing race that is remaining on the hub. Use a bearing separator.
- Step 50Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 51Install the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
- Step 52Press-fit the new bearing into the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.Replacement: wheel bearing – VAUXHALL CORSA Mk I (B). Tip from AUTODOC experts:Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
- Step 53Install the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
- Step 54Install the brake disc cover.
- Step 55Tighten the fasteners of the brake disc back plate. Use a Phillips screwdriver. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 7 Nm torque.
- Step 56Clean the wheel hub mounting seat. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 57Treat the wheel hub mounting seat. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 58Press-fit a new bearing into the wheel hub. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
