Replacement: wheel bearing – NISSAN INTERSTAR Box (X70). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Do not reuse the bearing assembly you removed from your NISSAN INTERSTAR Box (X70) car.
- The wheel bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – NISSAN INTERSTAR Box (X70) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out the replacement steps as follows:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel fasteners. Use a 24 mm wheel impact socket. Use a tommy bar. - Step 3
Clean the axle nut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 4
Loosen the axle nut. Use a 36 mm socket. Use a tommy bar. - Step 5
Raise the vehicle.Replacement: wheel bearing – NISSAN INTERSTAR Box (X70). Tip:If you are using a jack, make sure the car is parked on a hard, flat surface.Make sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands. - Step 6
Unscrew the wheel fasteners.Caution!To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the fasteners. - Step 7
Remove the wheel. - Step 8
Clean the ABS sensor fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 9
Unscrew the ABS sensor fastener. Use a 10 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 10
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 11
Remove the ABS sensor. - Step 12
Detach the ABS sensor wiring. - Step 13
Detach the ABS sensor connector. - Step 14
Clean the brake hose bracket fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 15
Unscrew the brake hose bracket fastener. Use an H5 hex bit. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 16
Spread the brake pads apart. Use a mounting lever. - Step 17
Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 18
Unscrew the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use an 18 mm socket. Use a tommy bar. - Step 19
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 20
Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.AUTODOC recommendation:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting it from the brake hose to avoid opening the brake line.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging from the brake hose.Do not press the brake pedal after the caliper has been removed. This may cause the piston to fall out of the caliper bore resulting in the brake fluid leakage and air entering the system. - Step 21
Clean the brake disc screw. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 22
Unscrew the brake disc screw. Use a T40 Torx bit. Use a ratchet screwdriver. - Step 23
Remove the screw. - Step 24
Remove the brake disc. - Step 25
Unscrew the axle nut. Use a 36 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 26
Detach the CV axle from the steering knuckle. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer. - Step 27
Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 28
Unscrew the nut connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a 22 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 29
Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint separator. - Step 30
Clean the fasteners that connect the lower and upper ball joints to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 31
Clean the front fastener that connects the suspension arm to the subframe. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 32
Loosen the front fastener that connects the suspension arm to the subframe. Use a 30 mm socket. Use a tommy bar. - Step 33
Unscrew the fastener that connects the lower ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a 16 mm combination spanner. Use an E16 Torx socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 34
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 35
Unscrew the fastener that connects the upper ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a 22 mm combination spanner. - Step 36
Support the steering knuckle. Use a transmission jack or one more vehicle jack. - Step 37
Clean the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 38
Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use an 18 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 39
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 40
Lower the transmission jack or the second vehicle jack by 10–15 cm.Important!Lower the transmission or vehicle jack smoothly without jerking it to avoid damaging the vehicle assemblies and mechanisms. - Step 41
Disconnect the upper ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint separator. - Step 42
Detach the CV axle from the steering knuckle.Replacement: wheel bearing – NISSAN INTERSTAR Box (X70). Professionals recommend:Make sure that the CV axle is not hanging down. - Step 43
Disconnect the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle. - Step 44
Remove the steering knuckle together with the wheel hub. - Step 45
Clean the steering knuckle mounting seats. Clean the wheel bearing circlip. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 46
Remove the wheel bearing circlip. Use circlip pliers. - Step 47
Press the hub out of the bearing. At this stage, the inner race of the bearing and the cage with rollers will remain on the hub. Use a bush and bearing driver set and a hydraulic press. - Step 48
Press the hub out of the inner race of the bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set and a hydraulic press. - Step 49
Press the outer race of the bearing out of the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set and a hydraulic press. - Step 50
Clean the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use a wire bore brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 51
Clean the wheel hub. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 52
Press the new bearing into the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set and a hydraulic press.Important!When pressing on the wheel bearing, check to make sure it is positioned correctly. Avoid any misalignment.When pressing the wheel bearing in, make sure to press only on the outer race of the bearing. - Step 53
Press the wheel hub into the inner race of the bearing installed in the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set and a hydraulic press.Replacement: wheel bearing – NISSAN INTERSTAR Box (X70). Tip from AUTODOC experts:When pressing the wheel hub in, check to make sure it is positioned correctly. Avoid any misalignment.When pressing the wheel hub in, make sure to press only on the inner race of the bearing. - Step 54
Install the circlip of the wheel bearing. Use circlip pliers. - Step 55
Install the steering knuckle assembled with the wheel hub.
