Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI A6 Allroad (4FH, C6). AUTODOC recommends:

Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your AUDI A6 Allroad (4FH, C6) car.
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – AUDI A6 Allroad (4FH, C6).

Carry out replacement in the following order:

Step 1

Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.

Step 2

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 3

Loosen the wheel hub fastener. Use HEX No.H16. Use a tap wrench.
Step 4

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 5

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.

Step 6

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. AUDI A6 Allroad (4FH, C6)
Step 7

Remove the wheel.
Step 8

Disconnect the brake pads wear sensor. Use a crowbar.

Please note!
Some cars are not equipped with the brake pad wear sensor.
Step 9

Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 10

Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11

Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
Step 12

Remove the caliper bracket.
Step 13

Disconnect the ABS sensor cable fastener. Use a crowbar.
Step 14

Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 15

Remove the brake disc.
Step 16

Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI A6 Allroad (4FH, C6). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.Wear protective goggles.
Step 17

Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #21. Use a tap wrench.
Step 18

Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 19

Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 20

Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 21

Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 22

Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 23

Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
Step 24

Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut.
Step 25

Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 26

Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.

Step 27

Remove the drive shaft from the wheel hub.

Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI A6 Allroad (4FH, C6). Tip:
Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
Step 28

Clean the wheel hub fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 29

Unscrew the hub bearing mounting. Use XZN #12. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
Step 30

Remove the wheel hub together with the bearing. Use the hub slide hammer puller.
Step 31

Grip the wheel hub together with the bearing in a vice.
Step 32

Remove the hub bearing mounting. Use 3-Arm Gear Puller.
Step 33

Pull the bearing inner race out of the wheel hub. Use the bearing puller. Use 3-Arm Gear Puller.
Step 34

Install a new hub bearing and secure it.
Step 35

Release the vice and take out the wheel hub together with the bearing.

Step 36

Press a new bearing into the wheel hub. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 37

Adjust the wheel bearing.

Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI A6 Allroad (4FH, C6). AUTODOC experts recommend:
Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat.
Step 38

Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 39

Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
Step 40

Tighten the fastener of the wheel hub bearing. Use XZN #12. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 80 Nm torque.+90°

Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI A6 Allroad (4FH, C6). Tip from AUTODOC:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.The wheel bearing unit must not tilt on the axle pin.
Step 41

Remove the support from under the arm.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI A6 Allroad (4FH, C6). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 42

Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 43

Mount the drive shaft into the wheel hub.
Step 44

Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 45

Clean the ball joint mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Step 46

Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #21.
Step 47

Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 48

Clean the mounting seats of the tie rod end. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 49

Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
Step 50

Install the fastening bolts.
Step 51

Screw on the fastening nut that connects the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 52

Screw on the fastening nut that connects the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 53

Tighten the fastening nut connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 nm torque.
Step 54

Install the brake disc.
Step 55

Tighten the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 5 Nm torque.
Step 56

Install the brake caliper bracket.
Step 57

Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 190 Nm torque.
Step 58

Connect the ABS sensor cable fastener.
Step 59

Connect the brake pads wear sensor.
Step 60

Install the fastening bolt.
Step 61

Screw the wheel hub axle nut. Use HEX No.H16.
Step 62

Treat the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Treat all joints of the arm. Use copper grease.
Step 63

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 64

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

Replacement: wheel bearing – AUDI A6 Allroad (4FH, C6). Professionals recommend:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 65

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. AUDI A6 Allroad (4FH, C6)
Step 66

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 67

Lower the car.

Step 68

Tighten the bolt connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use HEX No.H16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 200 Nm torque.+180°

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 69

Tighten the wheel bolts using a criss-cross pattern. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 70

Remove the jacks and chocks.

Step 71

Tighten the brake fluid reservoir cap. Close the hood.
