Replacement: strut mount – ALFA ROMEO GT (937). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the left and right shock struts of the front suspension.
- All mounts of the front shock struts should be replaced simultaneously.
- Please note: all work on the car – ALFA ROMEO GT (937) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3
Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 4
Unscrew the upper fasteners of the shock strut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 5Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 6
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 7Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 8
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. ALFA ROMEO GT (937) - Step 9
Remove the wheel. - Step 10
Remove the fastener attaching the brake hose to the shock strut. Use a crowbar. - Step 11
Detach the brake hose from the shock strut. - Step 12
Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 13
Undo the fastening nut that attaches the stabilizer link to the shock absorber fork. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 14
Remove the stabilizer rod. - Step 15
Clean the fastening bolt that connects the shock absorber fork with the lower control arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 16
Unscrew the fastening bolt that connects the shock absorber fork with the lower control arm. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 17
Clean the control arm fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 18
Unscrew the fastener that connects the suspension arm to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 19
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller. - Step 20
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 21
Clean the fastener that attaches the shock absorber fork to the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 22
Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. - Step 23
Unscrew the fastening bolt that connects the shock strut with the shock absorber fork. Use a drive socket #Е14. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 24
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 25
Detach the shock absorber fork from the shock strut. Use a hammer. - Step 26
Remove the assembled shock strut. - Step 27
Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.Replacement: strut mount – ALFA ROMEO GT (937). AUTODOC recommends:Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles. - Step 28
Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 29
Compress the spring. - Step 30
Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a shock absorber socket DD№6 Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 31
Remove the top strut mount.Replacement: strut mount – ALFA ROMEO GT (937). Professionals recommend:Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary. - Step 32
Install a new strut mount. - Step 33
Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a shock absorber socket DD№6 Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 35 Nm torque.AUTODOC recommends:Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. - Step 34
Decompress the spring. - Step 35
Treat the shock strut rod. Use copper grease. - Step 36
Remove the assembled shock strut. - Step 37
Clean the mounting seats of the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 38
Install the shock strut into the wheel arch.AUTODOC recommends:ALFA ROMEO GT (937) – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while screwing in the fastening bolts. - Step 39
Clean the mounting seats of the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 40
Attach the shock absorber fork to the shock strut.
