- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- Please note: all work on the car – CITROËN ZX (N2) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
- Step 3Raise the car.AUTODOC recommends:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: front lower arm – CITROËN ZX (N2). Tip from AUTODOC:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 7Remove the cotter pin. Use a crowbar.
- Step 8Remove the circlip.
- Step 9Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #36. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 10Remove the fastening nut.
- Step 11Loosen the CV axle in the wheel hub. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
- Step 12Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 13Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 14Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 15Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 16Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: front lower arm – CITROËN ZX (N2). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
- Step 17Release the fastener that connects the control arm ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar. Use a hammer.
- Step 18Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.
- Step 19Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle.Replacement: front lower arm – CITROËN ZX (N2). Professionals recommend:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
- Step 20Clean the fastener that connects the suspension arm to the subframe. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 21Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 22Clean the fasteners connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 23Unscrew the rear fasteners of the suspension arm. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 24Remove the fastening bolts.
- Step 25Remove the arm. Use a crowbar.
- Step 26Clean the suspension arm mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 27Install a new arm.Replacement: front lower arm – CITROËN ZX (N2). AUTODOC recommends:During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
- Step 28Install the fastening bolts.
- Step 29Screw in the fastening bolts. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #13. Use a drive socket #16. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 30Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 31Install the steering knuckle on the CV axle.
