Replacement: front lower arm – ALFA ROMEO 156 (932). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- Please note: all work on the car – ALFA ROMEO 156 (932) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. ALFA ROMEO 156 (932) - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 7
Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 8
Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #38. Use a tap wrench. - Step 9
Remove the fastening nut. - Step 10
Unscrew the fastening bolt that connects the shock absorber fork with the lower control arm. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 11
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 12
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #24. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 13
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller. - Step 14
Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 15
Clean the control arm fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 16
Unscrew the fastener that connects the suspension arm to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 17
Detach the control arm. Use a ball joint puller. - Step 18
Remove the fastener attaching the brake hose to the shock strut. Use a crowbar. - Step 19
Detach the brake hose from the shock strut. - Step 20
Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. - Step 21
Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle.Replacement: front lower arm – ALFA ROMEO 156 (932). AUTODOC experts recommend:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked). - Step 22
Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 23
Unscrew and remove the wheel arch cover fasteners. Use a Phillips screwdriver. - Step 24
Remove the wheel arch cover. - Step 25
Remove the arm. Use a crowbar. - Step 26
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 27
Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 28
Install a new arm.Replacement: front lower arm – ALFA ROMEO 156 (932). AUTODOC recommends:During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover. - Step 29
Install the drive shaft. - Step 30
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 31
Screw in the fastener that connects the suspension arm to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 32
Raise the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm. - Step 33
Screw the fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 34
Tighten the fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a drive socket #15. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 71 nm torque. - Step 35
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: front lower arm – ALFA ROMEO 156 (932). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
