Replacement: brake hose – BMW E46 convertible. AUTODOC experts recommend:

The replacement procedure is identical for the right and left brake hoses on the same axle.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: brake hose – BMW E46 convertible. Use the following procedure:

Step 1

Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Step 2

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 3

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 4

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 5

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. BMW E46 convertible
Step 6

Remove the wheel.
Step 7

Clean the area where the brake hose is connected to the brake caliper and to the brake circuit pipe. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.

Replacement: brake hose – BMW E46 convertible. Tip:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 8

Put a container for gathering brake fluid beneath.
Step 9

Loosen the brake hose fastening. Use a combination spanner #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 10

Detach the brake hose from the shock strut.
Step 11

Unscrew the fastener connecting the brake hose to the brake circuit pipe. Use a combination spanner #10.
Step 12

Unscrew the brake hose from the brake caliper.
Step 13

Screw the new brake hose onto the brake caliper.
Step 14

Fasten the brake hose on the strut.
Step 15

Screw the brake hose onto the brake circuit pipe.
Step 16

Tighten the fastener connecting the brake pipe to the brake caliper. Use a combination spanner #14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 22 Nm torque.
Step 17

Tighten the fastener connecting the brake hose to the brake circuit pipe. Use a combination spanner #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 14 Nm torque.
Step 18

Clean the brake hose mounting seat on the brake circuit pipe. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: brake hose – BMW E46 convertible. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 19

Undo the brake bleeder screw. Use a combination spanner #8.
Step 20

Connect the brake bleeder kit to the brake bleeder screw.
Step 21

Press the brake pedal several times to remove any air from the system.
Step 22

Tighten the brake bleeder screw. Use a combination spanner #8.
Step 23

Disconnect the brake bleeder kit.
Step 24

Clean dirt from the brake hose bolt. Use a brake cleaner.

Replacement: brake hose – BMW E46 convertible. AUTODOC recommends:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 25

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a wire brush. Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 26

Install the wheel.

Replacement: brake hose – BMW E46 convertible. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 27

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 28

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 29

Remove the jacks and chocks.
Step 30

Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank and refill if necessary.
Step 31

Tighten the brake fluid reservoir cap. Close the hood.
