Replacement: brake caliper – VW TRANSPORTER VI Platform/Chassis (SFD, SFE, SFL, SFZ). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right brake calipers on the same axle.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: brake caliper – VW TRANSPORTER VI Platform/Chassis (SFD, SFE, SFL, SFZ). Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.Step 2Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 3Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
- Step 4Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 5Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW TRANSPORTER VI Platform/Chassis (SFD, SFE, SFL, SFZ)
- Step 6Remove the wheel.
- Step 7Detach the brake caliper retaining spring. Use a crowbar.
- Step 8Clamp the brake hose off using a brake hose clamp.
- Step 9Loosen the brake hose fastening. Use a combination spanner #14.
- Step 10Remove the dust boot caps of the brake caliper guide pins. Use a crowbar.
- Step 11Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 12Unscrew the brake caliper fasteners. Use HEX No.H7. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 13Remove the guide pins from the brake caliper.Step 14Remove the brake caliper.Replacement: brake caliper – VW TRANSPORTER VI Platform/Chassis (SFD, SFE, SFL, SFZ). Professionals recommend:When replacing the brake caliper, it is recommended to check the brake hose for damages and, if necessary, to replace it with a new one. When replacing a brake caliper it is recommended to replace brake pads, check the state of the brake discs and replace them with new ones if necessary.If no new guide pins were supplied in a kit with the new brake calipers, use the old pins.
- Step 15Remove the brake pads.
- Step 16Unscrew the brake hose from the brake caliper. Use a combination spanner #14.
- Step 17Treat the brake hose. Use a brake cleaner.
- Step 18Install and fix the brake hose into a new caliper.
- Step 19Install the brake pads.
- Step 20Install the brake caliper and fix it.
- Step 21Clean the brake caliper guide pins. Use the brake caliper guide pin grease.
- Step 22Screw in the guide pins.Step 23Tighten the brake caliper fasteners. Use HEX No.H7. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 nm torque.
