Replacement: engine thermostat – VAUXHALL CHEVETTE. AUTODOC recommends:
- Check the condition of the coolant every time you replace the thermostat. Change the coolant if necessary.
- Please note: all work on the car – VAUXHALL CHEVETTE – should be done with the engine switched off.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3Unscrew the coolant reservoir cap.
- Step 4Raise the car.Replacement: engine thermostat – VAUXHALL CHEVETTE. Professionals recommend:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 5Clean the lower coolant pipe mounting seat. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 6Prepare a container for fluids.
- Step 7Loosen the coolant hose clamp. Use clic-R collar pliers.
- Step 8Detach the coolant hose.Replacement: engine thermostat – VAUXHALL CHEVETTE. AUTODOC experts recommend:Caution! Coolant may leak out of the coolant lines and thermostat housing.
- Step 9Drain the coolant from the engine.Replacement: engine thermostat – VAUXHALL CHEVETTE. Tip:Wear gloves to prevent contact with hot liquid.
- Step 10Attach the coolant hose.
- Step 11Secure the coolant hose clamp. Use clic-R collar pliers.
- Step 12Lower the car.Step 13Remove the clip on the air filter intake hose. Use a clip removal tool.
- Step 14Disconnect the air intake pipe from the air filter housing.
- Step 15Clean the coolant hose connections. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 16Loosen the clamps of the coolant hoses. Use clic-R collar pliers.
- Step 17Detach the coolant hose.Replacement: engine thermostat – VAUXHALL CHEVETTE. AUTODOC recommends:Caution! Coolant may leak out of the coolant lines and thermostat housing.
- Step 18Cover the radiator hose to prevent dirt or foreign objects from entering the system.
- Step 19Clean the thermostat housing. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 20Unscrew the thermostat housing fasteners. Use Torx E10. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 21Remove the thermostat housing together with the thermostat.
- Step 22Cover the mounting seat of the thermostat housing with a microfibre cloth to prevent dirt and foreign objects from entering the system.
- Step 23Remove the rubber strip.
- Step 24Clean the mounting seats of the thermostat housing. Use all-purpose cleaning spray. Use a seal scraper.
- Step 25Install the new thermostat housing together with the thermostat.
