Hi, on my leaf it feals that something in the wiper gear has broken / unhinged, anybody who can give some advise how to open the room the wipergear is covered inn?
- @A. Smith21.11.2025 16:25MemberHey! Same thing happened to me last winter, classic Leaf issue. You need to remove the cowl panel - it's that plastic strip running along the base of your windscreen. First pop off the wiper arms (14mm nut under each cap), then remove two push clips on the ends and about four slide clips along the panel. Wiggle it free from the windscreen and you'll see the whole linkage mechanism.
- @Henry Jameson21.11.2025 17:32Member@user_21789 Just to add - getting the wiper arms off can be proper annoying, mine were stuck solid. After removing the 14mm nuts, you need to pull and wiggle them quite a bit to break them free. Don't yank too hard though, you could damage them.
- @L.B.X.3024.11.2025 11:45Member@A. Smith Yep, and once you've got the cowl off, the whole motor assembly comes out with just three 10mm bolts. Don't forget to disconnect the electrical connector before pulling it out !
- @jack_preston24.11.2025 12:10MemberI had mine apart last month - most likely your linkage arm is bent or the plastic connector popped off the motor arm. Super common problem when you run the wipers with ice on the screen.
- @o_turing24.11.2025 12:44Member@user_21789 There's also a small square access panel on the driver's side near the windscreen, you can peek in there first with your phone camera to see what's going on before taking everything apart. Saved me loads of time diagnosing it 😊
- @Ethan.Knight24.11.2025 13:20Member@jack_preston Exactly what happened to mine! The plastic connector just popped right off. Once you get to it, you can usually just snap it back on if nothing's broken. Took me about an hour total including reassembly.
- @e_howard24.11.2025 13:36Memberthose slide clips along the cowl panel, you grab them with pliers and pull towards the front of the car. Much easier than trying to pry them off!
- @GeorgeYo24.11.2025 13:51Member@user_21789 Be careful with the wiper arms mate, if they're really stuck on there like mine were, wiggle them side to side while pulling up. Some people use a puller tool but honestly just patience works.
- @G. Carter24.11.2025 14:49MemberThe linkage on these Leafs is pretty weak tbh, mine bent twice already. Second time I was more careful but still happened. You can straighten it with big pliers if it's just bent.
- @michael_penn24.11.2025 15:01Member@user_21789 Make sure when you put it all back together the motor is in park position before reconnecting everything. And those two 6" plastic pieces on the sides of the cowl - they just sort of fall loose when you remove the main panel, don't lose them !
