Hi there, rats have eaten the windscreen washer pipe on my Amarok. They are routed through the bonnet, and I cant see how to get them out to replace them. Does anyone know how to do this?
@Anna Johnson21.04.2021 11:29AUTODOC expertThe washer pipes are located between the bonnet and the bonnet trim. You can see the exact location in the service book for your car. The tubes themselves can be found from an authorized dealer and there is also information about their exact location for installation.- @Ethan.Knight15.11.2025 16:10Membermate had the same issue last year on his Amarok - you gotta remove the wiper arms first then take off the plastic cowl grille bit that sits at the base of the windscreen. pipes run through clips under there and into bonnet
- @GeorgeYo15.11.2025 16:53MemberNightmare job tbh. I just used soapy water and pulled the old pipe through the clips when mine got damaged, bit fiddly but works
- @e_howard15.11.2025 17:21Member@user_40205 easier than you think! pop the bonnet, remove wiper arms, then the black plastic trim panel below the windscreen comes off (few clips). You'll see where the pipes route through. Can either replace whole pipe or use a joiner if the damage isn't too bad
- @B. HAMPTON15.11.2025 17:49MemberI cut out the damaged section and used one of those straight pipe joiners from the motor factors - cost me like £3 and took 20 mins. Way easier than replacing the whole thing!
- @michael_penn15.11.2025 18:26Member@B. HAMPTON +1 on the joiner method. Did this on my Golf after same problem (bloody rats!). Make sure you get the right diameter tube though, VW ones are pretty standard size across models
- @C/C/Z17.11.2025 10:44Member@user_40205 Just be careful when pulling the cowl panel off mate, the clips can be brittle especially if the car's a few years old. Had one snap on me and had to order a replacement clip 😅
- @G. Carter17.11.2025 12:07MemberMy brother-in-law's a sparky and he said put some rat poison blocks around the engine bay tied with wire otherwise they'll just come back and do it again
- @daniel_sheffield17.11.2025 15:16MemberDid mine couple months back on a 2013 Amarok. Whole pipe from dealer was expensive so just repaired the chewed bit with a repair kit. Working fine since, no leaks
- @e.maxwell17.11.2025 16:23Member@GeorgeYo soapy water trick is brilliant! Learned that one from an old mechanic. Makes the hose slide through clips so much easier than yanking it dry
- @Thomas Wood17.11.2025 18:10Member@Anna Johnson cheers for the advice but sometimes service book diagrams are useless lol. Real trick is getting that cowl trim off without breaking clips, then its straightforward to see pipe routing
- @James Turner17.11.2025 18:49Member@C/C/Z this! broke two clips on mine being too rough. Now I always use a trim removal tool, saves so much hassle
- @HARRIET17.11.2025 19:04Memberwe had rats nest in our old van, destroyed the sound insulation as well as pipes. Got lucky it was only washer pipe and not wiring harness - that would've been £££ to fix
