Shocks: bilstein b4 review
@Themen9907.06.2021 15:43MemberIt all depends on what you want really. I've kept the OEM parts for all my bushes, mounts, etc. because I want to keep the ride quality, especially since I use it for my daily commute.- @Harry7701.08.2025 13:15MemberMany drivers share your impressions after fitting Bilstein B4 shocks: they report a noticeable increase in firmness compared to the OEM Sachs dampers and, for most, this is a positive enhancement. According to Bilstein, B4 shocks are about 10% stiffer than the original Sachs units, and this seems widely confirmed by user reviews and technical discussion threads. The stiffer setup translates into tighter control over body movementâless nose dive under braking, reduced roll in corners, and an overall more planted feelâwhile still being comfortable enough for daily driving.
Owners often mention their surprise at the transformation: cars with old, worn shocks (even if they werenât leaking) feel significantly more stable, quiet, and composed after the B4 upgrade. Many agree that replacing OEM Sachs after 30,000â40,000 miles sharpens up the whole driving experience and restores a âlike newâ feeling. Several also highlight that B4s maintain close-to-OEM ride complianceânot harsh, but firmer and more controlled than tired, original shocks, striking a good balance for commuters and everyday use.
A few caveats:
- Some users on rough roads found the B4s can feel "too firm" depending on tire choice and wheel size (e.g., low-profile tires amplify perceived stiffness),
- It's generally recommended to refresh mounts and bushings along with the new shocks,
- If you're after a much softer or âluxuryâ ride, sticking with Sachs or Koni Special Active might suit you better.
In conclusion, the B4s' extra firmness is appreciated by most drivers as a meaningful upgrade over worn OE units, especially for those seeking a more controlled, but still comfortable, daily driving suspension. Your impressions are echoed by a large portion of the communityâB4s offer strong value, OE+ feel, and reassuring handling improvements.

Hey everyone, Iâve just fitted these shocks and wanted to write a review of them right away. According to Bilstein, the B4s are ten percent stiffer than the Sachs that are the original equipment, and I find this extra stiffness good. I had never changed my shocks before and I couldnât believe the difference. If you still have the OEM Sachs and have more than 30,000 or 40,000 miles on the clock, you should probably change them too.
I couldnât find many Bilstein B4 reviews so I was wondering what other people whoâve fitted them think.
