Hey everyone, I recently noticed some small cracks in the sidewalls of my 2019 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. They’re not very deep, but I’m concerned about their safety. Has anyone experienced this before? Should I be worried, or is it safe to keep driving on them? Thanks!

Ah, the infamous sidewall cracks on a 2019 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 — the tyre equivalent of wrinkles sneaking up on you while you’re still feeling young and sporty! 😅 Here’s the lowdown on those tiny fissures and whether they’re a red flag or just superficial aging signs.

Should You Be Worried About Sidewall Cracks?
Small cracks in the sidewall of tyres are generally an early warning sign that the rubber is aging or being stressed by environmental factors like sun exposure, ozone, or even certain tyre cleaning chemicals. While these tiny cracks might not be deep now, they compromise the tyre’s structural integrity over time. The sidewall is a critical area because it handles much of the load and flexing while driving.

Experts strongly recommend not to ignore sidewall cracks because they:

    - Can cause the tyre to lose air pressure gradually or suddenly, making your tyre a sneaky air leak culprit.
    - Increase the risk of sudden blowouts, especially at higher speeds or under heavy loads, which is a recipe for disaster on the road.
    - Can reduce overall tyre performance, especially handling and grip on wet or slippery roads.

Is It Safe to Keep Driving on Them?
Minor cracks might mean you’re still good for a short spin, but the safest bet is to have them inspected by a tyre professional as soon as possible. They can tell if it’s still safe or time to stop playing tyre roulette. If cracks start deepening or spreading, it’s time to swap those beauties out for fresh rubber because you don’t want your wheels to throw a tantrum by blowing out mid-journey! 🚗💥

Tips to Keep Tyres Happy and Crack-Free Longer
    - Avoid using harsh chemicals or silicone-based tyre shine products on the sidewalls.
    - Keep tyres inflated to the recommended pressure.
    - Park in shaded areas or garages to reduce UV exposure.
    - Regularly inspect your tyres for any changes in cracks or other damage.

In short, those cracks aren’t just a cosmetic headache; they’re your tyres whispering “replace me soon!” So better safe than sorry—keep your rides smooth and rubber fresh to avoid any explosive driving surprises. 🚀🍀
