Heater not working intermittantly. Need advice on heater repair and access(which panels do I remove?
- @johnson1915.08.2025 15:53MemberAlright, heater trouble in the mighty NV400ânothing like a blast of âmaybe warm, maybe notâ air to keep you guessing on those cold mornings, right?
For the NV400 (which is basically a cousin to the Renault Master and Vauxhall Movano), access to the heater blower motor (a common culprit for intermittent heater problems!) is nicer than youâd think. Hereâs the scoop:
- The heater blower motor sits behind the glove box and up to the right. To get at it, youâll want to remove the glove box. This is the first panel to come offâlook for about four Torx screws along the top, and a couple underneath. Once those are out, the glove box wiggles free and youâll see your target.
- With the glovebox off, youâll have direct access to the blower, its electrical connections, and you can check if the wiring plug is loose, or give the motor a cheeky tap (sometimes, thatâs all it takes to get a lazy fan whirring againâseriously, try it, sometimes you get lucky).
- If you need to go further, you might need to pop off some plastic cover panels around the lower dash, but usually glove box removal gets you enough access for most fixes.
A few possible causes for your problem:
- Loose/corroded wiring plugs at the blower.
- Dying blower motor (classic in older vans).
- Faulty resistor pack (if some fan speeds work and others donât).
- Rarely, jammed heater control flaps or messy coolant issues, but the intermittent nature screams âblower electrics!â or âfan dying.â
Get the glovebox out, then have a peer and a gentle wiggle. If your hand comes back with glitter (okay, just dust), it's just part of Van Ownership Glamour. Good luck, and may your van finally remember how to do âheatâ full-time!
