Hi all, I’m looking at the MG HS as a potential family car and would really appreciate some input from long-term owners. What are the pros and cons you’ve experienced? Are there any reliability concerns I should be aware of? All thoughts are welcome.

Hi there! I've had my MG HS for about a year now and I have to say, I'm really impressed with it. The space and practicality are perfect for my family of four. The boot is massive and the interior is really well-designed. On the plus side, the tech features are great - the infotainment system is user-friendly and the reversing camera is a lifesaver.

I've had my HS for a couple of years now and overall, I'm quite happy with it. The performance is decent, and it handles really well for a family SUV. The ride quality is comfortable too. In terms of cons, I've found the fuel economy to be a bit disappointing, especially on longer journeys. And while the interior quality is generally good, there are a few areas where it feels a bit cheap and plasticky.

Thanks for the feedback, that's really helpful! What about reliability - have you had any major issues with the car?

Reliability-wise, I haven't had any major problems at all. The car has been pretty solid for me. I did have a small issue with the infotainment system freezing up a couple of times, but a software update sorted that out. Otherwise, it's been plain sailing.

I haven't had any major reliability concerns either. The only thing I'd say is that the build quality sometimes feels a bit hit and miss. I've had a couple of minor niggles like squeaks and rattles, but nothing too serious. As long as you keep on top of the maintenance, it seems to be a fairly reliable car.

That's good to hear. The reliability aspect is definitely one of my main concerns, so it's reassuring to know that you haven't had any major issues. Do you think the HS would be a good fit for a family of four?

Absolutely, I think the HS is a great family car. The interior space is really impressive, and there's plenty of room for everyone and all their stuff. The rear seats are spacious and comfortable, and the boot is huge. It's a very practical and versatile vehicle.

I agree, the HS works really well as a family car. The kids have plenty of room in the back, and the boot swallows all our luggage and sports equipment with ease. The only thing I'd say is that if you regularly carry a lot of passengers or heavy loads, the engine can feel a bit underpowered at times. But for everyday family use, it's more than capable.

That's great, thanks so much for the detailed feedback. It's really helpful to get the perspective of long-term owners. I think the HS is definitely a strong contender for my next family car - the practicality and reliability aspects seem very appealing. I'll have to go for a test drive and see how it feels.

Definitely give it a test drive, that's the best way to see if it's the right fit for you. And feel free to reach out if you have any other questions as you're going through the decision-making process. I'm happy to share more of my experiences with the car.
