    Best to avoid:
2014 and 2016 models (first generation): These were the models with the most complaints. The main problems were: increased oil consumption (especially on early models), windshield problems (cracks), incorrect operation of LED DRLs and various electrical failures.
What to look out for (for all generations):
    - Infotainment system: On some models, there may be glitches, freezes, "phantom" clicks.
    - Brakes: Messages about premature wear of pads and discs.
    - 2.2 Skyactiv-D engine (diesel): There are problems with the timing chain (stretching) and DPF filter on frequent short trips.
    - 2.5 Skyactiv-G engine (petrol): In some cases, there were reports of problems with the cylinder head.
Overall, the Mazda CX-5 is considered a reliable car, especially after 2017 (second generation). The main thing is to conduct a thorough diagnosis before purchasing.

For the Mazda CX-5, here are the key model years you should steer clear of and the main issues reported:

    Years to Avoid
    - 2014 Mazda CX-5: This model has the highest number of complaints, including engine problems like oil loss and misfiring on acceleration, electrical issues, premature brake wear, and touchscreen malfunctions. Some owners reported the engine not shutting down properly and clunking into gear unexpectedly, which can be serious.
    - 2016 Mazda CX-5: Known for jerky transmission shifting, infotainment screen delamination (cloudy or bubbling screens), early brake wear, and several recalls including issues with daytime running lights, fuel filler pipe (fire risk), and steering components that could cause loss of control.

    Other Considerations
    - Early first-generation models (2013-2016) generally had more issues, especially before mid-2016. Later models from 2017 onward show improved reliability.
    - The 2018 model had some electrical problems like battery drainage, brake pedal noise, and windshield cracking but is generally better than 2014 and 2016.
    - The 2020 and newer models are considered the most reliable, with fewer complaints and better overall performance.

    - Avoid 2014 and 2016 Mazda CX-5 models due to engine, transmission, electrical, and brake issues.
    - Prefer 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2020+ models for better reliability and fewer problems.
    - Watch out for transmission smoothness, infotainment condition, brake wear, and any recalls when buying used.

This guidance should help you pick a Mazda CX-5 that’s less likely to give you trouble and offers good value for money.
