Hello! I’m thinking about getting a Mazda CX-30 but I’ve heard some dodgy things about certain model years. Which years should I definitely steer clear of? Cheers!

When buying a used Mazda CX-30, it is best to avoid 2020 models, as they have more reports of potential electrical issues than later models. 2021 models are considered more reliable, as some of the 2020 debut issues have been addressed.

    More details:
    2020:
The Mazda CX-30 debuted in 2020, and the first models had some issues, especially with the electrical system.

    2021:
Many of the issues identified in 2020 are believed to have been resolved in 2021, making the model more reliable. A turbo engine option was also added in 2021.

    2022 and beyond:
The 2022 models and later generally receive positive reviews for reliability and quality.

    Overall review:
The Mazda CX-30 is generally considered a reliable car, but as with any model, the first few years of production may have minor issues that were fixed in later models.

You should definitely steer clear of the 2020 and 2021 Mazda CX-30 model years. These years have been reported to have significant reliability issues, especially related to the engine, fuel system, battery failures, and repeated recalls. The 2020 model, being the first released in the US market, has had multiple complaints about engine and brake problems, while the 2021 model has even more complaints, particularly about engine oil consumption and battery issues. Owners have also reported recurring faults such as faulty heater/coolant control valves and other electrical problems in these model years.

While the CX-30 overall scores well in reliability surveys and has a good reputation, these early model years stand out as problematic. Later model years tend to have improved reliability, but the 2020 and 2021 versions are the ones most commonly flagged to avoid when buying used.
