Mazda 2 years to avoid MAZDA 2 Saloon (DL) (01.2015 - ...)

Hey folks, I’m thinking of getting a Mazda 2, but I’ve heard some models have dodgy reliability.

Can anyone share which years I should definitely steer clear of? Cheers!

Overall, the Mazda 2 is considered a fairly reliable car. However, as with any car, some model years may have their own peculiarities.
Based on reviews, there is no specific model year of the Mazda 2 (DL) (from 2015 to present) that should be avoided due to widespread reliability issues.
Some owners have reported minor issues, such as:
    - Air conditioning malfunctions.
    - Problems with the particulate filter (in diesel versions).
    - Some issues with the suspension (wear on the struts).
To be sure, when buying a used Mazda 2 of any year of manufacture, it is recommended to conduct a thorough inspection and, if possible, diagnostics at a service center.

The Mazda 2 generally has a good reputation for reliability, but there are specific years you should be cautious about:

    - Years to Avoid:
The 2011 and 2012 models stand out as the worst years, with 2012 particularly problematic due to frequent transmission failures, engine stalling, and electrical issues. The 2014 model also has notable electrical failures and a harsh suspension that affects ride comfort. These years have had multiple recalls, including serious Takata airbag recalls, and tend to have higher maintenance costs and reliability complaints.
    - Best Years:
The 2012, 2013, and 2014 models are generally seen as better than 2011, but 2012 and 2014 still have issues, so the safest bets are 2015, 2016, and 2017 models, which offer improved reliability, fewer electrical problems, and better overall owner satisfaction.
    - Common Problems in Troubled Years:
Transmission issues (especially slipping or failure in automatics)
Electrical system faults, including sensor and infotainment failures
Engine misfires linked to spark plugs or ignition coils
Suspension complaints regarding stiffness and ride comfort
Airbag recalls related to the Takata issue

-Avoid: 2011, 2012, and 2014 Mazda 2 models due to transmission, electrical, and safety recall issues.
    - Consider: 2015 and later models for better reliability and fewer common faults.
    - Check: Full service history and recall completion on any used Mazda 2 you consider.

This approach will help you pick a Mazda 2 with fewer reliability worries and better ownership experience.
