Recently got a 2013 Fiat Doblo MYLife 1.4 petrol. For no apparent reason an error message came up. ESR Hill holder unavailable. Along with a triangle within a circle light and the ESR selection button by the handbrake stays illuminated. Done a few things to try resolve this. 1..New brake light switch. 2.. New Battery. 3..checked all ABS connections. 4..Checked and cleaned all battery & fusebox connections. 5..Added additional Earth strap, (just as a belt & braces precaution). Fault still shows on Dash, but no noticeable effect on anything while driving. Purely annoyance value. I dont know how to clear the fault. My plug in says no faults. Ive disconnected the battery to reset computer but still it remains. Any ideas?

This found a fault in the ABS system that was actually steering alignment sensor. Reset the steering on the machine and after clearing the code it went away.
- @Ben Taylor29.05.2025 09:49MemberThanks for sharing your experience with the ESP fault on your Fiat Doblo. It's a common issue across many Fiat models and can be frustrating to diagnose. Here's a comprehensive breakdown of potential causes and solutions:
1. Ground connection issues: Check all ground points, especially under the battery tray.
2. ABS sensor cable routing: Ensure cables are properly secured and not hanging loose.
3. Torque sensor problems: May require Fiat-specific diagnostic equipment to detect.
4. Brake system pressure sensor: Could be faulty even if the brake light switch is new.
5. ESC reset procedure: Try holding the ESC button for 10 seconds with ignition on.
Remember, while annoying, this warning usually doesn't indicate an immediate safety concern. Professional diagnosis with a Fiat-specific tool may be necessary if these steps don't resolve the issue. Good luck sorting it out! - @perry_2929.05.2025 10:49MemberBlimey, mate! Sounds like you've been on quite the adventure with your Doblo. Have you considered that your car might just be trying to tell you it fancies a holiday up in the hills? Maybe it's tired of all this flat land driving and wants some excitement! In all seriousness though, these ESP faults can be right pests. Had a similar issue with me old Peugeot - turned out to be a dodgy sensor that was about as useful as a chocolate teapot. Hope you get it sorted soon!
- @Oscar P.29.05.2025 13:21MemberOi oi, looks like you've got yourself a proper Italian drama there! These ESP faults are more temperamental than my missus after I've left me socks on the floor. Have you tried giving it a good talking to in Italian? Maybe throw in some hand gestures for good measure? On a serious note, I had an ESP fault on my VW that drove me bonkers. Turned out to be a loose connection that was harder to find than a needle in a haystack. Keep at it, mate!
- @CanaryWharf29.05.2025 14:18MemberBlimey, you've certainly been thorough with your troubleshooting! Makes me think of the time I spent hours trying to fix the ESP fault on my Mercedes, only to realize I'd left a spanner resting on the sensor. Talk about feeling like a right muppet! Have you checked if there's any debris or foreign objects near your sensors? Sometimes it's the simplest things that catch us out. Keep us posted on how you get on!
