Hey folks, I’m considering getting a BMW i3 but I’ve heard mixed reviews. Which specific model years should I steer clear of? Any personal experiences or advice would be appreciated! Cheers!

The 2019 BMW i3 is worth avoiding due to a recall related to a faulty electric motor control module that could result in a loss of power and increase the risk of a crash. It is also recommended to avoid very early first-generation i3 models due to their limited range.
    Key items to avoid:
2019 model year: This year was marked by a recall on a large number of 2019 model year vehicles due to a potential faulty high-voltage electric motor control module. The fault could result in a loss of power in the vehicle, creating a risk of a crash.
Early models (first generation): The very first BMW i3s (pre-2017) had a limited range (around 112 miles). While this doesn't make them "bad", 2017 and later models have improved batteries that have significantly increased the range.

I actually had a 2019 BMW i3, and yeah, the issue with the electric motor control module hit me too. The car suddenly lost power a couple of times, which was super stressful. Ended up getting a replacement motor through Engine Finders, and honestly, it’s been running great since then. If you’re looking at an i3, I’d say avoid the 2019 models unless you’re sure the recall work has been done.
