HI aim struggling to change wheel bearing on my bmw rear passenger side has anyone got any tips
- @G.Hill.M15.11.2025 16:32Membermate the 36mm hub nut is proper tight, you'll need a breaker bar or impact gun to crack it loose. Set the parking brake first tho
- @ethan_tech15.11.2025 17:04Member@user_55373 biggest pain is getting the driveshaft out - 6x E14 torx bolts from the diff side, then slide it out. Makes life so much easier once its outta the way 👍
- @e.wright1415.11.2025 17:40Memberhad same issue on mine last year, the inner race stayed stuck on the hub when i pulled it. ended up using a dremel to cut it off carefully, just dont go too deep or you'll wreck the hub
- @James Baker15.11.2025 18:16Memberif the bearing is seized in the trailing arm you might need a slide hammer with hub attachment. I struggled for ages till my neighbour lent me his, came out in 5 mins after that
- @daniel.scott_3415.11.2025 18:41Member@user_55373 dont forget to remove the c-clip inside once you get the hub out, loads of people miss that. Also clean the trailing arm bore properly before pressing new bearing in otherwise it wont sit right
- @F. Adams17.11.2025 11:00Member@ethan_tech exactly this ^^ and watch out for the driveshaft splines getting fused to the hub, seen it happen where pulling the hub damaged the driveshaft and needed replacing too. Proper nightmare
- @WOOD C. J.17.11.2025 12:21Memberwhen you press the new bearing in make sure the press tool sits square against the outer race only, not the inner. My mate pressed on both and destroyed a brand new bearing, expensive mistake
- @SportKing 👑17.11.2025 15:53Member@e.wright14 yeah cutting off that inner race is sketchy lol, i used a 3-jaw puller with a socket as spacer against inside of hub instead, bit safer but takes longer
- @J/OWEN17.11.2025 18:40Member@user_55373 whole job took me about 4 hours in my garage with basic tools plus the slide hammer. The special BMW bearing press tool makes it easier but you can manage without if you're careful. Just take your time with the hub nut and driveshaft bolts
- @A.C. Tech17.11.2025 18:46Member@daniel.scott_34 +1 on cleaning the bore, i used brake cleaner and a rag. Also when tapping the hub back into the new bearing use a soft mallet and go slowly, keep it straight or you'll damage the races
- @G.Hill.M17.11.2025 18:59Member@F. Adams nightmare is right, cost my cousin an extra £300 for a new driveshaft because the garage forced it. If it feels stuck spray some penetrating oil and let it soak overnight
