When buying a used BMW 5 Series, you should be particularly cautious with certain models.
    E60 / E61 (2003-2010)
    - Early production years (2003-2005): These models had more ‘teething problems’, especially with the electronics (iDrive system) and various sensors.
    - N54 engine (in the 535i): Known for problems with turbos, fuel injectors and high-pressure pumps (HPFP).
    - V8 engine (N62 in the 545i): Prone to antifreeze leaks due to an unreliable tube, as well as problems with oil caps (increased oil consumption).

    F10 / F11 (2010-2017)
    - N63 engine (in 550i): This V8 engine is known for high oil consumption and problems with turbines.
    - N20 engine (in the 528i): Early models (before 2015) had problems with timing chain stretch.

The early years of the E60 and F10, as well as versions with N54, N62 and N63 engines, are considered the most problematic. Always perform a comprehensive diagnostic check before purchasing.
