Hey everyone, I’m really torn on whether the 2023 Lexus RX 500h is the right luxury SUV for me. How does it perform on UK roads, especially in terms of fuel efficiency and tech features? Any thoughts on maintenance costs or ride comfort?

I understand your doubts, choosing a car is a responsible matter. Let's figure out if the 2023 Lexus RX 500h is right for you, especially in the UK.
    *Pros:
    - The RX 500h is a hybrid, which in itself is a big plus in the UK with its high fuel prices. Expect a consumption of about 6-7 liters per 100 km in a combined cycle, which is very good for a car of this size.
    - 371 hp under the hood provide excellent acceleration and overtaking on the highway. The hybrid system makes the ride smooth and responsive.
    - Lexus is famous for its comfort, and the RX 500h is no exception. The suspension copes well with the unevenness of British roads, noise insulation is at a high level.
    - Lexus is a premium brand, the RX 500h will emphasize your status.
    *Cons:
-The RX 500h is an expensive car, both in purchase and in maintenance. In the cramped cities and narrow streets of the UK, the RX 500h may seem cumbersome.
    - The boot capacity is not the largest for its class.
    - Lexus are reliable cars, but servicing at an official dealer can be expensive. Research the cost of maintenance in advance.
    *Ride comfort:
    - Adaptive suspension provides a smooth ride
    - Excellent sound insulation
    - Comfortable seats with many adjustments
    - Modern multimedia system with a large screen
The Lexus RX 500h is an excellent choice if you need a comfortable, dynamic and prestigious SUV with good fuel economy. However, consider its cost and dimensions.

I actually just picked up the 2023 Lexus RX 500h a few months ago, and I have to say, I'm really impressed with how it performs on UK roads. The adaptive suspension does a fantastic job of smoothing out the bumps and potholes, and the overall ride comfort is excellent. It feels very nimble and responsive, even in the tighter city streets. The only downside is that the large dimensions can make parking a bit of a challenge in some areas, but the surround-view camera system helps a lot with that.

I completely agree with you on the ride quality. I test drove the RX 500h a while back, and I was blown away by how composed and comfortable it felt, even on some of the more poorly maintained roads near my place. The cabin is incredibly quiet and well-insulated, too. As for the fuel efficiency, I'm seeing around 7.2 liters per 100 km in mixed driving, which is really impressive for a luxury SUV of this size. The only thing I'm a bit concerned about is the long-term maintenance costs. Have you found the servicing to be quite expensive at the Lexus dealers?

That's a great point about the maintenance costs. I've heard that Lexus can be a bit pricey when it comes to servicing, even compared to other premium brands. Have you looked into any independent mechanics in your area that might be able to service the RX 500h for a bit less? I know there are some Lexus specialists out there that can provide quality work at more reasonable rates.

Yeah, the maintenance costs are definitely something to consider with the RX 500h. I'll admit, I've been going to the Lexus dealer for all the scheduled servicing, and it's definitely not cheap. However, I've heard that there are some independent shops that specialize in Lexus vehicles and can provide quality work at a lower cost. I might look into that for the next service, as it could help offset the premium price tag a bit. Overall, though, I still think the RX 500h is worth it for the excellent driving dynamics, comfort, and fuel efficiency.

That's a good point about looking into independent Lexus specialists. I'll have to do some research in my area and see if I can find a reputable shop that can handle the servicing at a more reasonable cost. The RX 500h does seem like an excellent all-around package, and the fuel efficiency is really compelling. I'm just a bit hesitant to commit to the higher maintenance expenses in the long run. Perhaps I'll test drive it one more time and see if the pros outweigh the cons for my specific needs. Thanks for the helpful insights, everyone!

No problem at all! Choosing the right luxury SUV is a big decision, and it's great to get multiple perspectives. The RX 500h does seem like a fantastic option, but the maintenance costs are definitely something to consider carefully. I'd recommend test driving it again, as you mentioned, and also reaching out to a few independent Lexus mechanics to get a better sense of the long-term ownership costs. Best of luck with your decision – I'm sure you'll end up with a great vehicle that suits your needs.
