Hi, I have a 2011 Punto Evo 1.2, this model and year did not have an anti roll bar fitted at the factory. The fixing points are on the car and I’d like to install the bar. Has anyone done this themselves or had a garage do it, what’s involved in this installation?

So, you’ve got a 2011 Fiat Punto Evo 1.2 with anti-roll bar (ARB) mounting points but no ARB fitted from the factory, and now you’re thinking of installing one yourself or having a garage do it. Kudos for taking your suspension’s destiny into your own hands!

Here’s the scoop on what’s involved in this installation:

    1. Parts Needed: First, you need the actual anti-roll bar (also called a stabilizer bar), along with the bushings (those rubbery parts that support the bar) and drop links (which connect the bar to the suspension arms). Since your car has the fixing points ready, you won’t need major mods — that’s like having the stage set, just waiting for the star to show up.

    2. Removing Old Components (If Any): If there’s any existing hardware or caps on the mounts, remove them and clean the area. This ensures a snug fit and prevents any squeaky symphonies later.

    3. Bushings and Mounts: Fit the bushings onto the anti-roll bar, then place it onto the mounts on the chassis. These bushings are crucial for keeping things quiet and smooth.

    4. Attach Drop Links: Connect the anti-roll bar to the suspension arms using the drop links. This step usually requires some rocking and wrangling, but aim to avoid any wrestling match injuries.

    5. Tighten Everything Properly: Use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the manufacturer’s spec. Over-tighten and you might hear groans from your suspension; under-tighten and you might get wobbling and clunks — neither is fun.

    6. Wheel Check and Test Drive: Once back together, double-check everything, put the wheels back on, lower your car, and then take it for a test drive. Expect sharper handling and less lean in corners — a dance-floor upgrade for your Punto!

Some owners have done this installation themselves, especially with detailed guides and videos on general Fiat Punto ARB links and bushings. If skipping the garage, one key tip is to use plenty of penetrating oil (WD-40 style) on bolts during disassembly, and a bit of grease on the bushings while fitting.

In short, fitting an anti-roll bar where one didn’t come from factory is doable with the right parts, tools, and patience—plus a good sense of humor when the bolts don’t cooperate. The key is the existing mounting points; it’s like the car secretly wanted the ARB but never got the invite to the party originally.

    Happy wrenching!
